Hopefully I can articulate my question so that everyone understands it.

I had been an AP holder for four years, but let it lapse last Sept. as we knew we would not be back until November of this year. I have noticed that November 11 is a blackout date.

My question is, I think I can buy a regular four day park hopper, wait until after the 11th, then upgrade, that way I can get in on the 11th? My dd will have a four day park hopper so I want to be able to get in that day with her.

Also, if I remember correctly, you can't do this with the discounted tickets from the race, it has to be tickets bought from the DL site.

Thanks for help and suggestions. :-)

edit: I'm not sure my answer was correct so I'll defer to someone who has more recent experience.

Just to make sure I understand what you are asking...

You want to buy a regular 4 day parkhopper, use it to enter the park on the 11th with it and then after that use, upgrade it to an AP? If so and as long as you are upgrading the hopper before the end of your 4th day then yes, as far as everything I have read you can do this.

Tickets – Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
Can I upgrade theme park tickets after they are purchased?

A.
Yes. If it is within 14 days of a theme park ticket’s first use and the ticket has remaining admissions, you are able to upgrade the ticket. If it is more than 14 days after first use or if no admissions remain, then a ticket may not be modified or upgraded.

Upgrades may include:

  • Upgrading a 1-Day Value Ticket to a Regular or Peak Ticket
  • Adding days
  • Upgrading to a Park Hopper Ticket
  • Upgrading to an Annual Passport
Where to Upgrade Tickets

Ticket upgrades must be made in person at the following locations at the Disneyland Resort:

Tickets are nonrefundable and may not be downgraded to a ticket with less entitlements.

Yes, exactly. My first day of use would be the 10th, second day the 11th.

I guess the only other question to get answered is if I can buy the Get Travel park tickets or if I have to buy through Disneyland. But it's somewhere in the back of my mind that I read that you could not upgrade those tickets. I could be wrong though.

I have upgraded hoppers that I bought through way.com as well as one that I redeemed through Airmiles. This trip we are going to be upgrading two from LMTClub and one from Airmiles.

You can upgrade discounted park tickets, but it's hit or miss on whether you'll get the full face value of the ticket or just the price you actually paid applied towards the upgrade.

GET Travel tickets are not like the discounted tickets you get on way.com. They are event tickets with specific dates. Contact GET and ask them if the park tickets for Avengers are upgradeable. I filled out a form on their site asking about SW weekend and had an answer the next day.

Last November, with an Airmiles ticket (expiry date of December 2016 or Jan 2017 - I forget how they do expiry dates). I did just what you are describing. I used it for 2 days to get a Magic Morning and get in on a blacked out day. Then upgraded. I got the full value of the ticket. I would assume that all Airmiles tickets are like this.

Oops, sorry if I gave bad info! I've never heard of GET travel and assumed that they would be similar to other ticket resellers like LMT or way.com

Sorry op, my reply might not be correct in your situation.

In May, I upgraded a five-day discounted park-hopper ticket that I purchased from a TA when I bought my race registration to a Signature AP with no problems. I received full value for the ticket when I upgraded it. I'd used it already for one day before upgrading.

I'd used it already for one day before upgrading.

I've heard a theory floating around that this is the key to upgrading tickets and not losing any discount from buying the original ticket.

Contact GET and ask them. :)

It's never made a difference at Disneyland, and it no longer matters at WDW. Prices at WDW are bridged without using them first now (but only tickets purchased from discounters OR as part of a WDW package...ordering/buying tickets directly from WDW as stand-alones do NOT get price bridged) I've never gotten a ticket bridged at Disneyland (and I used them first) but others have.

Thank you all for your answers. I am going to call Get Travel. I think I still will be nervous about it though. lol

"All tickets on account are considered FINAL as of our deadline date and will be NON REFUNDABLE with no upgrades, changes, exchanges or post event shipping for those who do not bring, use or pick up their tickets."

I found this on Get Travel website, but I will still call to confirm.
