Is there any rhyme or reason or usual time annual renewal tickets go on sale?
I'm almost positive when I bought my passes last September I was told the renewal fee was on sale for $350
Now its $410
????

There isn't a grandfathered renewal rate. You pay the going rate at the time.

Have not heard of an across the board sale on AP renewals. WDW will sometimes offer certain groups "specials". For example a few years ago FL Res got 15 month renewals. The start of this year DVC was offered the Prem pass for 399. I have not heard of a "renew your pass in April save 10%" type of sale.

The main thing IMO to factor in regarding renewing an annual pass is are you going to use it within a month of purchasing the renewal? If not you may not really 'save' any money by renewing it when it is due.

For example our first annual pass was purchased in late September - we knew we were going to be there 10 days for that trip; 5 days for a trip in December and another 10 days early in the following September (we snuck in a couple more trips as well).

Then I let the pass expire as we weren't planning on visiting WDW again until the following January. If I had paid to renew it that September I wouldn't have used it for 4 months. Instead we went late that January/ early February again in April; in September and again in early January thus getting many more uses out of the pass.

We're heading for our 3rd pass - it's killing us :rotfl2: to wait but we're not going until late September with the plan of going then; late January; mid May and again in early September. Again renewing it this past January would have meant months of non use (might have snuck in a quick May trip) and not as many trips out of it.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Everyone got the 15 month renewals a few years ago, that was the only time I renewed an AP. Usually I just wait and buy a new one on the next trip.

If you let it expire, do you just have to buy a new one or can you renew up to a certain point after expiration? I would think you would have to buy a new one, but I may be wrong. I have never had one, but we are getting them in August--as we will be going again next May and then again in August of next year. So just trying to get a handle on things!

You can renew +/- 30 days of expiration. But unless you are going back right away, you're better off to just get a new one when you need it vs renewing.

If your trips are August-May-August, try to arrange the August dates so you can get all 3 trips on one AP.

To get the renewal rate, you keep the same date. Even if you renew it 30 days later, it still will expire 1 year from the original date.

Thanks for the explanation!!! I don't think I can get all three in. We are getting our AP's on August 1 of this year and then we are going in May 2014. My pass would then expire August 1, 2014 right? If that's true, maybe we should move our August 2014 trip to July so we can get a third trip out of it. I don't know. I guess I'll have to see how it plays out. Thanks again for the response!

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #15-G, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!

And prior to that (From the ticket sticky)
"Florida Resident purchase Annual Pass good for 15 months ended December 31, 2009."

So we are going to renew our Annual Pass but on the site it says you can renew up to 60 days prior to pass expiring. I want to do this to take advantage of credit card promotion for 5% cash back on theme parks. Also, according to the renewal page, it is cheaper to renew. Ours expire Nov. 18th of this year, and we are not going until end of November this year and then again in April next year. Is there any reason we should not renew? And if we renew are we getting a voucher or does it just make the pass we already have active for the extended time period? We exchanged our paper tickets to the RFID plastic cards when we were there in June if that makes a difference.

Your renewal AP will be valid from the day after your previous one expired for one year. It would cover your November and April dates. No reason not to renew in your case unless your trips are only a few days in length. You wouldn't get a voucher, you would get a new live AP that started November 19.
