Annual Passes question?

Our family is going to WDW beginning May12th and some of us are planning on getting annual passes.
My question is can I order them ahead of time, having them mailed to the house and not activate them until we enter the first park on May13th? Or do they begin the day you order them?
I'm wondering mostly because we plan to go back in March next year and possibly for our anniversary in May of 2015 and I would want to make sure I could still use the pass since our anniversary is May 9th. Make sense?

You can order them anytime. They're good for a year from the day you first use it. Sometimes I've ordered them just ahead of an announced price increase... So, yes if you order an AP now and use it first on May 12, it would be good until May 12 (13?), 2015.

I ordered my passes this weekend. If you're out of state, they told me you have to pick everything up when your arrive. And the magic bands won't be available to customize until after your first visit. So you won't get them until your next trip. Weird I know...

They're not activated until you use them. A voucher will be mailed to you, and you get the real thing when you pick them up at guest relations. You'll be getting a magicband.

Can I pick them up at any Guest Relations? We will be at DD the first night for dinner and it would be great if we could pick them up there. Or can we just get them at check-in at our resort? We're staying at Yacht Club..

I called IT yesterday and was told that as a new out of state AP you do not get a magic band until after your first visit. I think it's silly since they send them out in advance for reservations and they mail them in the US. They are now also selling them to off site guests which means I can buy them whenever I have a ticket in my account and they ship.

I paid $1300+ in advance, why not get my $13 MB in advance.

Yes. Right outside of quest you can get them at the booth. Many people recommend that. However your AP start date will be that night. If it's no big deal for you to burn a day to be ready then you're good to go.

Did not know this! I thought they activated when we went through the turnstiles of the first park. Good to know! I'll have to think on it...probably wouldn't matter...

Yes, you can pickup at any Guest Relations -- one at every park at two at Downtown Disney (Disneyquest on the west side, and between Ghiradelli's and (what used to be) Team Mickey on the Marketplace side.
