Annual passes and hotel discounts

We are going to go to Universal/ IOA in March and go back again this summer. I have booked my rooms at the RP and I was going to purchase the annual power pass with its blackout dates. However, I found out if I purchase the regualr preferred annual pass I can get a substantial reduced rates on my rooms. I looked at the numbers and it will save me money. But my questions is I will not be able to purchase the preferred passes until two days before I check in this spring. Will I run into a problem if I book my rooms now (which they will let me do) and not get the annual passes until I show up a Universal in March right before I check in?
