I'm sure this has been done to death but I'm very close to my trip and am trying to figure this out. I had planned on buying the discounted AP...but I'm starting to think 10-day Premium MYW no expire might be a better way to go.
Or even better one 10-day premium MYW and one 10 day basic w/no expiration. Options are as follows:

#1. PAP at $406. PAP doesn't include DQ (does it?).
#2. AP at $303 and a 10 day Premium $389. This gives me options to do PI, waterpark and DQ in one year and just two in another.
#3. Two 10 day Premiums at $389.
#4. One 10 day Premium and a 10 day basic no expire $389 + 309.
#5. One 10 day basic no expire and a 7 day premium $334.

There has GOT to be an optimum purchase combination. But I guess this comes down to personal preference. I've only gone into DQ twice although I'd like to go back...but the cost exceeded my desire to go into it (this is not budget consideration...just the way I think of things). I'll do other plus items once or twice per trip. For example my next trip is in January to BCV. There is no reason for me to do a waterpark...it'll either be too cold or I'll already be in a waterpark.

What would you do? your objective is to cover 2 or 3 years of trips and you do like going to Universal every other year. Logic is telling me maybe number 4 is best unless I'm sure I'll use AP room discounts. I just wish it had six plusses on it. The reason for the 10 day no hop is because I could easily do an EPCOT only day or a MK only day.

All those options make my head spin! :teeth:

Just posting to say that the PAP does include Disney Quest.

Have fun deciding, LOL -

This is a question that I have thought of as well, the DVC discounts for the APs really is a great deal. What it really comes down to is advance planning: can you be sure you will get two or more trips out of an AP (and are you able to schedule your trips <52 weeks apart so that you get 2 years worth of trips out of one AP.

If you can get two 5+ day trips out of a PAP, I'd go for the PAP. It allows hopping and unlimited minor parks, plus you get the discounts. All for only a few dollars more than a 10-day MYW Premium.

On the face of it, option 4 looks good if you want to get 3 years worth of 6-7 day trips.
But, for only a few dollars more than option 4, you could get two PAPs and cover 4 years worth of trips.

When the time comes for me, I'll be going with the AP.

I had posted a long analysis of this but lost it. I'll try again...

I think the 10 day magic your way ticket without the park hopping makes more sense than the PAP if you think that your 10 days (and plus options) will spread over a period of greater than a year (since the PAP will only be good for a year) and you don't care if you only do one park a day. Your visitation to DQ doesn't sound like it's too frequent so it may be a good option for you.

I was considering it personally because we rarely get into more than one park per day and I think of the extra cost for hopping as a possible savings now.

However, if you are sure you will spend 10 days or more in the park in one year (and perhaps want to go to DQ, water parks, and PI more than 5 times) over a one year period, the PAP makes more sense (as opposed to the AP) and also for the room discount and the fact that the difference is really negligible ($11 or so more for the PAP than for the 10 day no expiry, no park hopping option).

If you plan in advance and can establish how many days you will actually be in the parks, it will be easier to calculate. Personally, I can't calculate it since we may spend 5 days or we may spend 15, which is why I keep mulling it over.

Good point about the cost of the premium 10MYW being so close price wise to the PAP. I was letting the 4 and the 3 deceive me. I now live in Atlanta so getting down to Disney for 15 days is a worst case scenario of five separate trips in a year. The first trip will be five days to start and there is a high probability I'll go back in May for the F&G and my birthday...and then I can't wait for October. Plus any three day weekend is an opportunity waiting to happen.

Also DQ being included is big... Especially in value season DQ would serve the same function as EPCOT at night...basically a park to go to in the evening. Until I get another argument it looks like I'll do the PAP and maybe the 10 day basic no expiry because next year I wouldn't have quite the same interest in the parks...I do Disney in a big way one year then everything else the next.

Here's an interesting question...will the plusses on the old passes now include DQ?

One thing I have to be sure of is to not count 4 hours in a park as a day. I did that the last time I had an AP...I got my money's worth and I was able to travel easily with the various people I met up with but...I think I probably only broke even if one thinks of a "day" as 8 hours. I guess the other thing I should keep in mind is that Disney is a heck of a lot cheaper than skiing...something I don't see myself doing this year.

Where are these 10 day MYW passes posted???? I have been trying to find them, I think I want to purchase a 10 day MYW, no expiration and include Park Hopping, but I want to compare the price to the current 10 day PH, I do not need the pluses. We are not sure if we are going back within a year, so the AP's are out of the question

I've only see the 10 day mentioned on MouseSavers.com.... not sure where we'll be able to buy them.

mouseavers.com

new 10 day park hopper no expiration $366(maybe 353 if you can apply no expiration option on top of advance purchase discount of 10 day hopper)

2 old 5 day hoppers- about $490

huge savings now with current pricing

Its a matter of how many days you'll be there. 10 or more days in one calendar year or more than 5 plusses get the PAP. less than 10(and 5) in one year but going back eventually get the 10 day premium no expir

PAP- $406
10 day premium hopper no expir- $414

Good question, something I had been hoping will happen. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the answer is no, because there is no financial upside for Disney, and only confusion will result since the tickets usually state right on them what the plusses are good for. But maybe confusion in the other direction ("This is a plus ticket, I thought plusses were good for DQ, so what if it is a plus ticket from last year.") will persuade them to change it.

For the moment I think I've decided. The advance purchase savings looks like an additional $12 on a loaded 10-day ticket. So I think I'll go with that and then gamble on a regular AP on top of that if and only if I can get a room discount. I know I wouldn't use an AP two years in a row unless the mouse comes out with something really big.

Mousesavers has the advance purchase prices on it.

For me it would be $295.01 + 106.50 or $395.51 (after tax). Not a BIG savings over AP but depending on what curves or prizes life throws me the insurance on the 10 day pass is kind of a big deal. It's enough to buy the extra PI ticket I'dve wanted to see in the 10 day pass.
