Annual Pass Timing

I'm looking into purchasing annual passes for my upcoming vacation but I'm not sure if I have the timing/semantics right.

Back story: My fiance and I are eloping to Florida (Orange County courthouse) in a few weeks. We are starting our stay at Disney's Beach Club on 2/24/18 and have 6 day park hoppers. We're doing the princess half Sunday so not planning on hitting a park until 2/25/18 at the earliest. We are also planning a family vaca/vow renewal for exactly one year later on 2/23/19. He suggested getting annual passes and taking a trip down this fall if we do.

Would we be able to upgrade the passes 2/25/18 before we use them the first time? Would they then be valid until 2/25/19 or would it be 2/24/19 when our hotel stay starts? How does it work with memory maker as well because I've already pre-paid this.

If you use your existing tickets, your AP start date will be the date of 1st park entry 2/25/18. (Note, make sure MDE shows the correct date, sometimes the system puts in the MYW ticket purchase date, but the Guest Relations CM will gladly correct it,)

Ticket-wise there is no need to upgrade before using them. I generally upgrade to an AP in the afternoon as I’m leaving a park for a break, so I’m not wasting earlier touring time But if there is a good dining discount, you might want to upgrade earlier.

And the AP will be valid until midnight 2/25/19 (you actually get 366 days)

If you upgrade to the AP on 2/24, (would be needed if you change to an AP room discount) your AP start date will be 2/24/18 and will expire midnight 2/24/19

You'll need to get a refund for your memory maker as being an AP you don't need MM. Explain to the CM you purchased it ahead of time and would like a refund or the MM price applied to the cost of your AP.

I had a little trouble with this - at first the CM at guest services didn't want to apply the cost of MM to my AP upgrade, but I was nice but insistent and they were able to apply it (think they checked with someone else).

Thanks, I think that's what I'm worried about because I don't want to be out the $150, makes it less worth it. Glad I had the dates right. We won't have an AP room for this visit but he suggested adding a trip sometime during the year and would we also be able to make AP room reservations for our families as well?

Memory maker is suppose to be non refundable. But Disney is out to provide great customer service. Just tell them you either want to have a refund on the MM since you're upgrading to an AP, or have them apply the price you paid toward the AP. If that CM won't, just kindly ask to speak to a manager.

I've seen plenty of people on this board say they've gotten the refund or had the amount applied to their AP

is there a best park to do this at? We're staying at Beach Club and our plan was to rest after the race for a bit and then head to Epcot via the International Gateway

MK Guest Services. Nothing wrong with Epcot either if that fits your schedule.
