I'm going to get an annual pass to Disneyland this year and am wondering whether to purchase it immediately on-line or whether to wait for my first Disneyland trip in April. The reason to purchase it immediately is to make a reservation for another trip in June at which I'd like to get an annual passholder's discount. Does the one year start when I purchase it on-line or when I first use it in April?

Thanks,
Bill

It should start when you use it in April. If you are not staying on-site in April then there would be a small advantage to buying a park hopper and then upgrading that ticket to an AP, though, in that you could get a Magic Morning.

Normally I would actually just say to wait to buy your AP until you get there, but Disney has been hiking the prices of APs lately, so buying it earlier MIGHT (but probably won't) save you $10 or $20 per ticket.

That said, you can also volunteer with the "Give a Day" promotion to save $72 off of your AP (the value of a one-day, one-park pass, that can be upgraded). And you could even get Magic Morning if you volunteered, upgraded your one-day ticket to a 3+ day hopper at the gate, and then upgraded THAT to an AP after you used your Magic Morning. But this will not work if you buy your AP before arrival.

Do you have to confirm any info from your AP to make your June reservation? I thought that with most reservations you can say you're an AP-holder and then get the discount when you show it at check-in. I know HoJo's works like that and I'd HEARD the Disney hotels did too but don't quote me on that. :flower3:

Have a great couple trips! :)

You don't have to have the AP "in hand" when making your June reservation. They will give/book you with the AP rate and you'll just have to show it at check in.

Didn't realise that HoJo's had a discount for AP holders - is it a better rate than the DIS rate? I have booked using DIS rate at the moment hoping to get ENT rate for at least some of my days but if that doesn't work, I am wondering if I can get a better rate with AP.

Link to their info about HoJo's AP rate. Looks like 20% all year long!

DGF wants to get an AP for some of the discounts for the August trip. If I got the AP and she wants to buy clothing on her debit card, can we use my AP(hypothetically) to get the discount?

They also have new 50% off rates on certain days. Same rates at ET. http://www.hojoanaheim.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=29&sid=2401c490afcc1b7bb02e743e6a24b5e9

Only the PAP has merchandise discounts (however the xmas merchandise discounts has continued until May). But we had know problem getting AP discounts on food with my mom (non-AP holder) using her debit card.
