Annual Pass timing question

We will be traveling to Disneyland in the fall and I'm considering buying an annual pass for the trip in hopes of getting the AP discount for the Disneyland hotel. I'd appreciate any insight on:
1. if you order AP online, do they ship it to you or do you have to pick it up?
2. I assume I need the physical AP to show when checking in.

I did this once at Disney World and actually had to go to the DW ticket office, get AP, then go back to hotel to check in.

1. You have to pick it up there. It isn't activated until you get there.
2. If you pre-purchase a voucher you can show that at check in, and they'll probably just ask you to come back with your actual AP once you get it.
