@soniam I forgot 1 thing though. There is a food and merch discount with the AP and you could also purchase the tables in wonderland food discount card for even more saving. You may still want to upgrade right away depending on what your doing before you go to the first park. It can add up fast if your shopping at disney springs. almost the whole place you get a 10% discount.

When you upgrade your tickets at the park, after entry, to an AP do you get the discount card right away? I know the AP magicbands come in the mail later after you order them once you get back home. So I guess I'm wondering how do you use your merchandise discount right away after upgrading at the shops?

Yes. You'll be given a hard, plastic AP card to use for discounts, etc.
