Hi! -
We are looking at purchasing an AP for our 8 night trip to Disney. What type of "ticket" do you get to use? Is it a credit card type that you just swipe? Is your picture on it? Will I need to bring identification in order to use it? Any help will be appreciated.
TIA!

It is approximately the size of a credit card; your photo will not be on it, but you will not need photo ID to use it.

However, you will be required to insert your index & middle finger into a scanner at the turnstiles to insure that the user of the ticket is actually the one who purchased it. As I understand it, the scanner reads the distance between the bones in your fingers (or something).

It's to prevent anyone from allowing a different person to use their AP.

i have an AP. you are issued a normal paper ticket.they use the fingerprint scan at the gates. would still bring I.D. to the parks though. i wish they did have a plastic card . maybe someone else would know of one. i have been to one of the parks that didn't have a finger scanner.

You will need an ID to purchase the AP. After that, the only time you will need it is if a CM asks you for ID when your finger scan doesn't work. That happens all the time to a few folks, sometimes to many folks and not at all to most folks.

It will not be one of the hard plastic credit card type. Rather it will be the mylar paper type.

There is a page with info and explanations about the finger scan on Deb's site.

Hi there,

They are just made of card/paper. We found them to be a bit flimsy - by the end our 3 weeks they were starting to misread, so we'll probably have to get them replaced when we go back this year.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Audrey

no, i don't think that paper one will last too long. i think that i will be spending some time at guest services.

We've had ours for almost a year and have replaced them at least 4 times. Not only do they get wore out but when it rains or you go on a water ride and it gets wet, they don't work well afterwards. I wish they would go to a plastic card, Sea World and Universal both use the plastic and we havn't had to replace them yet.

Mine is getting ratty too! I'm surprised they don't use plastic sicne that is how they issue LOS. They obviously have the media available.

Have used AP's repeatedly and never had a problem with the ripping, tearing, or scanning even after drenching on Kali. Maybe our experience is unique. We also don't keep them near any other credit cards or back to back with other AP passes as they can erase each other. I've had that happen with normal credit cards more often.

>>> you will not need photo ID to use it.

You should have your ID with you. Disney reserves the right to check for ID especially, as mentioned above, at the turnstile if the computer system misreads your finger scan.

If you need to have your AP (or any other pass) replaced, ask for the old one (stamped void) as a souvenir.

I overheard a CM tell the person in front of us that the trick to it is to relaxe for the finger scan.

After i heard that & relaxed i never had a problem with mine.....before that i would have to try a few times to get it work.

We renewed our AP's in April and have never had a problem. In fact our old AP's are still in excellent condition. I carry them in my wallet since we never know when the mood may hit us to go to Disney. The old AP's were used about 70 or 80 times and held up quite well.

I keep mine in the little book/sleeve thing, and it's still wearing out. (I also use it 2-3 times a week, so I'm a little different, lol.)

They did actually use to have plastic AP's, with your photo on it. Much, much nicer than the paper ones. (It was back before the biometric scanners.)
