My friend was supposed to go to Disney about a month ago, and bought an annual pass for the discounts. He had to cancel his trip at the last minute, but he still has an annual pass that has never been used. He was under the impression that it was only good until the end of Dec, but I know that's not right, my question is, is it good for a year from the purchase date, or a year from the date he first uses it?

Its good till the date you activated the pass.
I don't think that they will expire if you haven't actived it yet either.
Not sure but maybe someone might know that.

Thank you for such a fast response. :flower: So just so I'm 100% clear, that means he can wait until next Oct to use it, and it would be good through Oct 2007? Also, would he be able to order DDE and get the resort discounts before actually using the pass?

I just looked at my passes unactivated and they don't say anything about expiring, so yes If they are not activated yet.
And you don't get any AP dicounts unless you have your passes activated.
As for DDE you should order it a month before you go.
We are going in a week and we ordered our in novermber and it expires in the end of december 2006. You might just wanna call and talk to a CM as the time gets closer.

Does he just have an AP voucher now? If he has the actual pass, he can look on the back and it will say "Valid thru Dec. XX, 2006". That will tell him if it's been activated. If he doesn't have that yet, then it hasn't been activated and will be when he turns it in at the park and gets his actual AP.

If he has a green exchange certificate ( often called a "voucher" on the boards for some weird reason ) then that does not expire. The Annual Pass that you exchange the certificate for though does expire one year from the date of activation.

If he has already activated the annual pass, then it will expire a year from the date he activated it. If he bought the AP at WDW "ready to use" - then it will expire aa year from the purchase date.

Not to many years ago they had "Voucher" printed on them, that's why many dis'ers call them that. They are now called "Exchange Certificates" and on the back say "Certificate - not valid for admission".

We bought our vouchers 9 months before activating them. They expire a year from the day of activation.

Where did you buy your vouchers at? We had an AP which we purchased in October 2004 from Shades of Green, it expired this past October. We would like to purchase a new AP but don't plan on using it until November of 2006.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you check out the passholders section at Disney's site you will see you can log in using the exchange certificate number. So your friend can definitely book the room online.

That makes a lot more sence to me now. I've been "familiar" with the backside of WDW Ticketing for a while now, but I wasn't around when they said "voucher."

The only thing we call a "voucher" anymore are the sheets of paper with bar codes on them that are redeemed for tickets from outside vendors such as West Gate, Expedia, ect.

Okay, here's something I'd like to know. If I buy an AP for WDW next year, can I use it for DL in California as well? Or, do I have to buy seperate tickets?

No, you can't. A WDW AP is for WDW. You'll need to buy seperate tickets for DL.

I wonder if Disney ever considered a universal pass for all of their parks? I would think that there might be a market for one that granted you admission to both WDW and DL.

I wonder if Disney has considered that too. I know that I would love a pass like that since I have an AP to DL and WDW. It would be so much easier to just get one pass. :)
