Annual Pass Question

My sister, my son, and I are leaving in 13 days (!!!) for our first week-long on property trip. My son will still be two and won't need a ticket for this trip. When we booked my husband wasn't sure about vacation time with his new job, so I only bought a five day base ticket for this upcoming trip and my son doesn't need one. Fast forward to now - my husband has had vacation time approved for September of this year and we are going to go back to Disney World for a week.

To save money I was hoping to upgrade my five day base ticket to an annual pass while I'm down in September. However, we were hoping to utilize free dining, if offered, during our September trip (if it isn't offered we are going to be getting dining anyway). So here come my questions.

1) Is the dining plan able to be added if you have an annual pass?
2) Are you able to book dining for your entire family if 2/3 have regular tickets and 1/3 has an annual pass?

I'm not sure I understand when you plan to update the 5 day ticket. If you use it now, you can't upgrade it in September. You need to do that while on your upcoming trip.

A/P holders can add the dining plan but not the free version. Free dining requires a minimum 2 day ticket purchase for everyone in the party.

I'm upgrading while I am down for my upcoming trip - I thought that would be a given.

So could I do free dining for my family and just pay for mine?

No, everyone in the room has to have the same plan (free or paid). If you want free dining, you would have to buy a 2 day ticket.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but if I buy a two-day ticket for myself would that mean that my son and husband also have to buy a two day ticket? Would I just add the remaining days to their tickets once we get there?

As the other poster said-no, you can't do it that way.

No, everyone listed in the room has to buy a ticket as part of free dining package. Even if you have an AP if you're listed on room you will need to buy a ticket. They can't separate you from the others.

You could do that but you'll only be able to make fps for 2 days for them.

And there isn't a way for them to have five day tickets and for me to have two day tickets either, right?

Where do you plan on staying? Are you sure free dining is worth it? I'm an AP holder. When they offered free dining in Sept I checked prices. For AllStar they wanted $150 before taxes a night...thats ridiculous in Sept. I paid $76.28 after taxes with my AP discount. For us the dp isn't worth it, they've raised rack rates too much.

You can always upgrade their 2 day tickets to 5 day or AP after you get there for free dining. You can save the 2 day ticket you bought for yourself to renew your annual pass when it comes due.

But again can only make FPs for 2 days. If you go this route make FPs for your MK days if you are planning on riding 7DMT. There is never a problem getting FPs for the other parks, you will get later in the day times but only 7DMT and A&E are the hard ones to get. For Toy Story make the FPs as soon as you can upgrade. We changed a park day last minute and couldn't get any day of.

Thank you for your help! I think we just won't do a dining plan - we might end up saving more money this way.

Free dining requires the purchase of tickets. AP holders can pay for a dining plan, but "free" dining always requires you to purchase tickets. If you have an AP, you can always save that extra ticket for later, or even use it towards renewing your AP in the future.
