I just closed on my first DVC contract through one of the resellers. Before closing I asked about my husband's ability to use the membership if he wasn't on the deed. I was told I just need to add him with Disney after all the paperwork goes through. However, another thread got me thinking about his (and my daughter's) ability to take advantage of member perks, like the PAP sale. Will I be able to purchase the PAP for the three of us? I had understood at the time of purchase when I made decisions about the deed etc, that I would, but like I said that other thread now has me concerned.

Any of your immediate family that lives with you at your address will qualify for the perks such as the PAP so no worries there. If or when you daughter moves out then that ability goes away and the only way she would then qualify is if she were on the deed but there are other considerations with having additional owners on a contract that can have negative impacts that you would want to consider.

If your husband is not on the deed he can't just be added as an owner by sending paperwork to Disney but he can be added as an associate member and would be able to call in and make reservations, bank, borrow and all that stuff. That would not get him a member card though - only being on the contract and deed as an owner will do that. But being an associate member is not necessary to qualify for the pass discount - just family association and address take care of that.

Kathy, can a spouse (who is also an associate) get a DVC AP even if the owner spouse isn't there with them?

Pretending like I could get down to Disneyland before the special deals end, would I (spouse and associate) be able to buy myself the DVC Premier AP, without DH (the owner) there?

Technically no, but that's not to say that there aren't some CM's that might let it slide by if you had your DH's member card but that really would be the exception rather than the rule. As I understand the member is always supposed to be there but I've read of some allowing a pre-ordered AP to be picked up with matching address ID and the members card. But since the Premier can't be pre-ordered I'd guess that might make it even less likely to happen.

The purchase of DVC APs is available to up to 8 immediate family members who reside at the same home address as the member on the deed. As long as your husband can show he lives at that address you will be able to purchase the discounted AP for him.

Buying a DVC pass will require a DVC Member Card and photo ID showing that the residence matches. As with many things Disney, there are times when a CM will make an "error" in favor of a guest but that is a rare report here on the DVC forums.
