Annual Pass Question

question: I was planning to buy a 10 day ticket from undercover tourist for our june trip. Then I've pretty much convinced DH to go back in Oct, so I decided that maybe AP's were the better deal. Do I save money by buying a 10 day ticket from UT and then upgrading to AP after I enter the park? or do I pay the difference between the UT price and the AP price? or the difference between a reg 10 day price and AP price?

OOPS! I also wanted to ask- is there a place that list the benefits /discounts of the AP pass? - specifically is there a discount on campsites @ Fort Wilderness?

As long as you use it first, you should* only have to pay the difference between the 10 day pass at gate price and the gate cost of an AP.

Wait until a couple days into your trip to do the upgrade, and whatever you do, don't do it at AK guest relations.

Feel free to read the 20 page thread on WHY I suggest not doing it at AK.

Recently there has been some discrepency about doing this. When someone tried to do this, the CM would not let them. Stating why did they just not get the AP to begin with.

Personally I would not risk it, if you know for sure you are going to get an AP just get it.

allearsnet has a passholder page with all the discounts u can print out. one sheet. it also has the discounts for the tables of wonderland card, which i feel is a must if u have a AP. we saved over 800 in food alone when we went with my parents in dec. there were 4 adults and a 1 year old. we ate at all sign places.

if i are doing more than 10 days in the parks in one year with hooper option the pass pays for itself. just for the tickets alone.

we had an 8 day magic your way pass from AAA for the dec trip but when we got down there decided to do another trip, cause we didn't think we would, this year. they refunded the full amount we paid when they saw where we purchased the ticket and credited this to our AP. not a question asked. i also talked to multiple CM before the trip and all said the same thing. i would call the AP number to ask them anything direct. they are wicked nice everytime i called. allearsnet has this number right on the passholder page.

I think one important thing is not to buy a ticket that has a value greater than the AP you want to purchase. Otherwise, buy the ticket from UT, use it at least once, then upgrade. This preserves the discount you receive from UT.

Yep that is the way it is "suppose" to go but as I said, it is not always the case.

I would just go to another CM then. You are allowed to upgrade your pass to an AP; they are not doing anything dishonest or against policy. It doesn't matter why/when you chose to upgrade; it could be for one of a million reasons.

I was there recently, used an old ticket I had, which I thought I had 6 days left but turned out I only had three when I went to check it atguest relations. Since I am going twice this year, I thought darn, I should have just bought a DVC ap and saved my individual tix. I asked the woman if I could have my day back on that ticket, and then buy the AP. Although officially they are not supposed to do that, she said she would as a one time courtesy. My point here is that, sometimes they will even do things that they aren't technically supposed to, so I cannot imagine why they would ever refuse someone on a completely "within policy" upgrade.
