Hi -- Forgive me, I am totally new to the pin thing, but on our last trip to WDW, DD8 got all into the fun of collecting pins and now wants to start trading. I did some research on-line so now I am feeling a little more informed about the rules, options, etc. But I am befuddled by the AP pins, as my parents have has APs for years (they live in FL) and they have never heard of this. Can you help me guide them as to how to obtain these pins; they would like to get them for my DD. Thank you very much in advance.

Hello and welcome

There are different places where you can pick up the AP pins.

The hat at MGM, Island mercantile at AK and pin central at Epcot. You just go to the register and ask about any AP pins. They look at your pass and then you buy them. It is that simple.

Hope this helps:cool:

There is one AP pin that is available everywhere until the end of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration. That one is the core pin.

There is one out now for the Animal Kingdom park, available at the hat at MgM, Island Mercantile at Animal Kingdom & Pin Central at EPCOT. (feel like Im forgetting some place). Its limited to 7500, I believe. There was one released earlier in the year for EPCOT. But I believe it sold out. Hope this helps. :D

Pin 11671: Animal Kingdom - Minnie's Parade Jeep (Annual Passholder Exclusive) went on sale June 1.
But I don't know for sure it sold out. But I would almost be surprised if it wasn't by now.

I had no idea!!!!! Cool! Thanks for posting the question!

I had no idea either!!! I was there 2 weeks ago and I sure would have asked. Which one is the "core" 100 years pin and could somebody tell me how many and a brief description of each. I guess I'll start trying to watch Ebay.

I think this is the core pin the are referring to:
Pin 7040: WDW 100 Years Mickey Painting AP
I think it was still selling in May when we there, and I was surprised at that.

The first AP pin is not a LE, and is still available for sale as long as you show your AP.
The second AP pin, a LE from Epcot is sold out.
The 3rd AP pin with Minnie in AK, is a LE and is soldout in Epcot, and at AK but it was still available in MK at Expositon Hall when we were there the week of July 4th. Someone also told me it was available at the Sorcerors Hat in MGM too. Again, you need to show your AP. :):D:)

Thanks, everyone, for your help. Now I have another newbie question:

My DF's friend just bestowed her entire pin collection on DD. There are loads of pins! Is there someplace where I can check out their "value". I don't want DD to fall victim to a pin shark and innocently trade a valuable pin for a dud.

Value is tough.
Some go by e-bay prices, but that is so flexible that I don't do it.
Some go by LE size, but again it is not too good an indicator because a Figment LE of 3,000 is probably a better trader than a Davy Crocket LE of 3,000.
Best advice is to ask fellow traders in the area their opinions of the trade. Everyone gets burned occasionally. The main idea is to have fun.
Don't let anyone pressure you into a trade. If they get too insistent.....walk away.

Look on the back. If there's anything extra than just the Disney logo, hold on to it and check around. If you see "Cast Member Exclusive" or "Lanyard Pin series" or "Limited Edition (number)", then just ask around.

You can also go to PinPics.com and search for the pin. It will show you how many people have it on thier "wants" list or "have' list or "tradable" list. This will give you a good idea on how many people want it and thus the value.

A dollar amount is difficult to measure a pins value on. Some pins aren't even for sale (although others try to sell them once they have them).

Every pin has its own value for different reasons. I would read on the boards alot (trade and "for sale" boards) before trading that first pin if you're REALLY worried about it.

There's a rule about treating newbies very nice and not to take advantage of them. If someone can knowingly rip you off without remorse over a pin.... well, let's just say, "What goes around, comes around!"

When in doubt, just ask several people. Hopefully, you'll find consistant answers.

Have fun trading!

Thank you very much for the help. It's not so much that I care about the pins' monetary worth, but I don't want my daughter taken advantage of.
