Cosmos-This is a summer flowering annual with plumed foliage and flowers in beautiful shades from white to purple. There is also a different variety with orange to yellow flowers. Cosmos grow to heights of 24 to 50 inches, when left to seed birds flock to these plants. They like sun and ordinary soil.
There is a species of cosmos with a tuberous root that is treated like dahias. Planted in the spring and dug up in the fall and the root stored for the winter. This cosmos has a brownish flower that smells like chocolate. I have never planted or seen them, have only read about them.
