Annual car hire insurance?

Clare,

I understand what Red Snapper was saying, but what I was pointing out was that you ARE covered for "injuries or damage to thrid parties & their property whilst driving your hire car" if you take out the insurance policy from Insurance4hire.

I do agree that you can't really judge any insurance cover until you have made a claim, but I am prepared to take that risk. This policy has cost me £103 (including tax) for 2 holidays (as they are both within a year). Taking Dollar's own insurance that would have been £728 (from memory it is £182 per week?). That's a saving of £625! It almost pays for the park tickets with free DDP for the 4 of us.

Regards,
Steve

Yes - but I am just talking generally about a very common misconception that many people have about their general travel insurance covering them if they hit someone whilst driving. Over the years on here there have been some truly jaw droppingly incorrect and donwright dangrous statments made about travel insurance.

insurance4hire's cover is adequate based on our interpretation over here and I am sure most people will be okay with it. I personally however, wouldnt use it (25+ years in the insurance industry)- a Brit involved in an accident, with a hire car, not having their insurance but one issued from their own country could cause some hassle - but thast just me.

As I was saying the man point of my earlier post was that people can not rely on their normal travel insurance to coever them for motor vehicle liability over and above any minimum limit a hire company provides.

Ali - can I just point out he is not an Insurance professional and is possibly only interested in ensuring you have a smooth trouble free experience with his company.

While he may believe what he is saying is correct -dont assume he knows what he is talking about - top up liability cover for instance is NOT a sales pitch.

I know what you are saying and thanks, however we have been using him for years and we trust him as I have checked and double checked because I know what its like out there and I do worry

I have however double checked and done a like for like with my dad as he is doing a fly drive the dollar at the same time and he took out their Platimum insurnace and we both have the same level of cover

SLI

if I am being stupid and missing something please please let me know so I can get on to them before we go .

for example if we don't use insurance4carhire who would you recommend.

thanks
