annoyed w/DD's school - just need to vent

Do you have a dollar tree store near you?
Our local Dollar tree had clown dress up things the last time I was in there. also you mentioned a dance costume .. if your DD goes to dance I would ask the teacher if she had something that would work -My DD's Dance School has a sale every September to sell old costumes and props used in the previous years recital. Often these items sell for $1-$2 dollars

I was painfully shy as a child, so I definately feel for you. As long as everyone will be having a speaking/singing part, it seems appropriate. But, it sounds to me like you are saying she is one of a select few in the class who has such a large part. If so, that teacher has no understanding of a shy child and I too would be VERY angry. Make sure she is well prepared and she will get through it alright.

As far as the costume goes, find out what the other kids will be wearing and do your best to make her costume blend in with theirs. If they are buying the "perfect" costume, get the best you can. But if they are pulling theirs together with what the have around the house, then do that. Help her fit in with the others as much as possible and she'll feel more comfortable with the whole assignment. And if all she does is mumble her lines, it will be a victory.
