Annoyed at DH re: credit card chargeback

Wow, some of you were really harsh on the OP. I am esentially the CFO of my family. I handle all the money and pay all the bills. Now, most of our CC are mine and DH is the authorized user. The only one that isn't is Amex. When the bills come in, I go over every charge, and yes, if I see something out of the usual, you can bet your butt I am going to ask what it was for. If I am the one dealing with the budget, then I need to know these things. I am not being mommy, I am trying to pay our bills!

We had an issue last week, someone paid their cable bill using DH's Amex. I had to have him deal with it, since it's his card, and Amex is taking the charge off, and looking into it.

I have asked him many times if he made a charge to xyz and what was for. I also wnat to make sure, if it ws for work, he remembers to expense it too!

Marriages are partnerships, and unless they have all separate accounts they pay bills from then the spouses need to be on the same page for money issues and bills.

ANd yes, if my DH is spending too much money, I will tell him to stop! He also discusses with me any big purchases he may want to make, and I do the same!

Questioning is helpful when looking for fraud or scams. DH didn't read the small print when he signed up for freecreditreport. I caught it. He canceled it. But if it turned up again I would ask him about it. Or I could just keep paying for something we weren't using.

No, the vendor has to prove that the charge is legit, otherwise the money goes back to the customer. The bank isn't the one responsible for the chargeback unless the bank is the one who debited the account.

Trust me, it's more on the customer now. The merchant only has to prove the bare minimum now. Card act changes have really stuck it to the customer. Just because there are MC/Visa regulations, the banks aren't following them. They won't pursue chargbacks they know they'll win simply because they are too close to time frames. They don't want to lose time and have to eat the charge.

I work for "the banks". Well, for one of them.
In the Merchant Services and Treasury Mgmt department.

The customers come first.
