Announcing New Shops, Eateries Coming to Downtown Disney District. Including a New Marvel Shop "Avengers Reserve"

According to ThemeParkIQ,

Disneyland updated previously filed permits for ESPN Zone in DTD to show a $3.5M change in use.

The permit shows the first floor becoming two units and the second floor becoming a single unit. New storefronts with new canopies are coming soon. Tenants have not been announced ye

Was really hoping they would make this dining again. I feel like DTD needs more dining not more stores.

I have a feeling they are going to move Wonderground to the ESPN building.
I hope they bring back all the cool merch they used to have at wonderground besides the art. They used to have purses, shirts and other neat things. Last couple times we have been all they had was art. Which, I love art. But I love the other stuff too. ☺️

Rumor has it that the Wonderful World of Sweets (formerly Marcelines) is going to have their soft opening on January 22.

I’m surprised they didn’t rush to open it before the Holidays. Our family has major sweet tooths and have been looking forward to this. Hopefully it’s more than just the Werther’s products that have been available in WDW for years (and confirmed to be coming to DLR).

I do miss Sprinkles. The DTD location didn’t last long, it must have been hemorrhaging cash. They moved to the Irvine Spectrum Center, which is even more convenient to me, but their location in that mall is inconvenient - if you’re lucky enough to find a parking spot on a weekend, you’ll get your steps in. Which is a good thing considering the calorie count!

OC Register had a good write up on Wide World of Sweets, which opened today. I read it awhile ago on the app… but it disappeared? Anyway, looks like many of the treats previously available only at WDW are now available at the DLR. There’s popcorn bucket and a line of sweets exclusive to a character named Poppi. Never heard of it.

The Disney Storyland Boutique opens on Friday. It’s a rebrand of the Disney Dress Shop, which closed just a couple weeks ago.

Would love to hear reports on these new shops: our trip is Feb 20th and looking forward to the DLander store, new dress shop and Wide World of Sweets (should have kept it Marcelines...)

We went to the stores last weekend. If DLander has a new drop, there may be a line outside. It is a pretty small store with a large section for Pandora in the back. There are two dressing rooms and a CM controlling who goes in and when. Purchases can be returned within 30 days so we found it easier to purchase, try on at home, and return what didn't fit.

I haven't seen any lines for the Marvel store.

Storybook Boutique has had long lines this week. It is no longer a dress shop. It has character merchandise. The long lines were mostly for the sakura items that were in hot demand. At first CM were stocking small quantities throughout the day. That led to people hanging out in the store waiting for the next character to be brought out. A few days ago, they changed it to a limit of 2 of each character per person. They sold out and are supposedly expecting more this weekend (Run Disney weekend).

Wonderful World of Sweets is very large compared to Marcelines. We bought the caramel corn. It says it was made that day, but it tasted stale. They are still doing the "take a number" system of checking out. I'm not sure why as everyone is confused where to grab the number (in the middle of the store) and that you need to wait for your number to be called. There is no line so just a large crowd of people with items in hand, creating a half circle around the registers waiting for their number to be called. Guests not realizing that there is a ticket/number system, see a CM with their paddle raised and walk up to register. They get turned away to go to the middle of the store to grab a number and wait to purchase their items. I think they should just have a queue for check out like every other store does.

The third store near Marvel and DLander has started construction. Now that Parkside Market is open, progress is being made on the new Earl of Sandwich building.
