Announcing New Shops, Eateries Coming to Downtown Disney District. Including a New Marvel Shop "Avengers Reserve"

Cons: name change, fear of losing unique sweets and watching candy makers do their magic, the architecture doesn’t look as whimsical and magical as I’d like
Taken directly from the Parks Blog:

“You’ll be able to watch these delectable delights being handmade from an exhibition kitchen viewable from the promenade.” 😍

Pictures from today.

Not sure which store this will be. Parkside Market is being built on the left.

See the differing styles of architecture in the pics in @LKing's post? Picture 1 shows the new MCM style in the building with a touch of googie in the shade structure. Picture 3 shows (IIRC) the Lego store with a sort of 'neoclassical' dome & columns. The final picture shows the Craftsman influence where Marceline's will be. This is what I'm talking about. With no 'transition space' like they have in DS, it's just too jarring and mishmash-y, especially as the Lego Store's facade is going to be right up next to the new MSM Marketplace area. I think this is one of the reasons that the new facade of Jazz Kitchen looks so 'wrong'. Its MSM/industrial facade stands out too much from the other 'softer' architectural styles nearby.

It's just not going to look cohesive and 'flowing'.

C'mon Disney! Hire me as your 'Arbitre de l'élégance'. I'll get it right for you! And the first thing I'll do is raze the former Rainforest Cafe. That's got to go!

I like the differing styles. I like the idea of having the character of how styles change rather than remaking everything into one format.

I also love the whimsy of RFC and will miss it.

I couldn't get the Disneyland app to flip to horizontal so had to take two screenshots to show all of DTD.

Moving from the parks towards the hotel (ie. right to left), the building with the circle is the current EOS and the future home of Portos. Next is the GCH. The yellow line is World of Disney. The red line will be Wonderful World of Sweets.

Moving left, the big red X is Tortilla Joes which is going to be demolished and re-built. I'm going to guess that the steakhouse/BBQ building will be similar in style to The Alley and the Jazz Kitchen's new modern look. The Jazz Kitchen remodel could have been done in order to help with the transition to the new additions across Disneyland Drive.

When you make the left turn, the new MCM style is an extension of the DLH. In the picture above, #1 is where the Parkside Market is being built. #2 is new retail. My understanding is that #3 will be the new EOS and retail stores.

Regarding the Lego store, it is a very tight space for the monorail to go between the new Parkside Market and the Lego Store (see below). Maybe Lego will move to the former ESPN building. :confused3

Star Wars Trading Post took over the former Rainforest Cafe building. I thought it was supposed to be temporary. Maybe Disney still has plans to demolish it.

@LKing

Thank you so much for that. It really helps 'visualize' things.

Wow, that space for the monorail IS really tight! I'm sure there's some sort of 'minimum clearance' regulation so it must be 'wide enough'.

It sounds like it. From what was posted on social media, the permit reads: 4900 sq ft interior tenant improvement at sales floor and office at mezzanine. New storefront and glazing. Install exterior portal display with concrete slab for outdoor area with electrical.

Apparently the permit was filed in June but was just issued yesterday.

I agree that I think they should have left it as Marceline's as a tip of the hat to Walt but it seems like they are doing a lot to erase his legacy these days. I also wasn't a fan of the new Jazz Kitchen design. It looks like it could have been plucked from Miami or the 60's. I liked the New Orleans flair it had. Made you feel like you were on Bourbon Street.

So possibly the Lego Store is going to get a mid-century remake to fit in with the rest of the new west end? I'm OK with that.

According to ThemeParkIQ,

Disneyland updated previously filed permits for ESPN Zone in DTD to show a $3.5M change in use.

The permit shows the first floor becoming two units and the second floor becoming a single unit. New storefronts with new canopies are coming soon. Tenants have not been announced yet.

Finally

Feels like Disneyland resort is finally moving on past covid and the whole resort is getting much more love then it has been

DTD is much better and will keep getting better, Disneyland is pretty much at its peak with the rides for the 70th and DCA is getting a new land and some new rides after years of just retheming attractions
