Announcement by Disney In NYC 9/23/10

Leave the castle alone! For Pete's sake, why are they always screwing up the castle? What now, Dumbotron? I don't know how they're going to do it, but I don't want to see myself or any randoms on the castle, thank you very much.

I didn't even like the bling much.

Just leave the castle be.

Argh.

I fixed it for you

Yeah, but don't you feel sorry for the first timers who had to see that ugly cake, and never came back?

No. It just is what it is. It isn't that big in the grand scheme of life and a good reason to go back. It isn't like they don't announce these things ahead of time (other then the Stitch thing but that was one day) and if seeing the castle pristine is a priority for some reason plan around the special events.

JMO of course.

Does this castle make me look FAT?:rolleyes1
:rotfl2:
Okay so it says that photopass photographers will be snapping pictures all day, and then pictures from that will be randomly selected...and it sounds like it's going to be an "event" at night...

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not going to sit around in front of the castle watching projections of pictures of people that I don't know. Even if there is some way to be notified your picture will be chosen....I still wouldn't wanna sit through the whole thing just to see mine for 5 seconds.:confused3

Great idea....baaaaad execution.

My thought is I don't want my children's photo up on the castle, I don't let just anyone see photo's of them, So how are they going to get around privacy laws.

Are they going to say that by entering the park you are allowing photos of yourself to be used for publicity and are owned by Disney???

The rest of the presentation already talked about things we already knew about like the aqua duck on the dream and the cruises to Alaska.

And yes Tom was drinking way way too much koolaid.

This link -- http://www.wdwmagic.com/Events/Let-...ories-Begin'-castle-projection-test-video.htm -- was on the Disney FB page, posted by a Joe Boorman, and evidently taken down quite quickly, by the time I watched the video and commented (referring in my comment to his "above link") it was gone.

Having watched that video, I would say that this is the most horrendous thing I have ever seen. One way to clear out the park real quick in the evening.

I actually like the Tink projection, it shows what could be done. But the pictures of families is pretty bad and I don't think anyone will really care except for those few that will desperately try to dress up and attract attention to themselves to get in the pictures.

I've never gotten a picture of the castle at night (is that when they are putting the pictures on?)

If so...Let's just say on our trip in 2011, taking a picture of the castle won't be a must do.

Wow. My expectations weren't very high, but I figured the announcement would concern something new at the parks. Even if it was just a new parade or fireworks, it would have been something. This campaign is something else.

It's pointless and insulting to make such a big deal about such a dumb promotion. I hadn't even considered the way they're messing with the castle; that's another sad issue. Seriously, how can they expect anyone to get excited about this news? Couldn't they at least have stressed some new change to the Fantasyland expansion that would have excited Disney fans? This might be a new low.

Disney would have been better off not making this announcement...

Why, oh Why mess with the castle... :confused3 IF you really want to project people's pictures can't you do it in an obscure area... maybe out by Splash Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain... even on Space Mountain. Hey... print them out and interchange them on the sides of the monorail and let folks purchase them if they want to... kinda like the brick idea.

The castle is not a billboard. Who wants a picture of the castle with someone else's face on it?

I know it's always easier to find fault with someone else's ideas. If Disney had asked the fan base to Dream up some ideas I am sure they would have far surpassed this one. :thumbsup2

For the park fans like us I don't think this is anything to get excited about. I believe this campaign is geared more towards getting families who have never visited the parks, or have gone once or twice to go again.

For fans like us we're going to go with out without this campaign. We were looking and hoping for something different like a new attraction, etc that didn't come to pass.

I personally don't care if there is a new attraction lol, i'm going back no matter what :lmao:. What I have a slight problem with is other peoples pictures on the castle...taking a picture of someone else's picture :upsidedow

I think the images will be subtle on the castle like they do now with the images projected on the castle during special fireworks shows like Hallowishes & the christmas party fireworks displays now. I think that the images that are used in the promotion will be created using Photopass photos taken during the day for some of the pictures/video others will be those submitted by people via the website.

My guess would be that the legal wording on ticket media and on brochures advertising the photopass service in the maps will read that by entering the park and/or allowing our photographers to take your picture, you are granting Disney permission to use that photo in their "lets make a memory" promotion. This would be similar to signs posted where a movie is being filmed that tell you by going pass the sign, you are granting your permission to possibly be filmed and could appear in the film.

I will have to see it in the parks, before I determine whether or not I like how it is projected on the castle.

How soon before we start hearing complaints about a family vacation being ruined because their picture wasn't on the castle.:rotfl:

Yeah, but don't you feel sorry for the first timers who had to see that ugly cake, and never came back?

I popped my Disney cherry...figuratively speaking...to the ugly cake. I enjoyed it enough to come back the following year to see it again, heck I even bought a small figurine of the darn thing. I do like the castle better in its original state though. I must say though I didn't hate the cake as much as I hated the 50th anniversary "gold accents".

Now speaking in regards to todays announcement....I kinda liked it. Nothing too earth shattering or new to us folks who frequent sites like this but I like the whole memories idea much better than the "Let's Celebrate". At least I don't have to pretend it's a birthday or anniversary to feel like I'm being included.

Not sure if I would line up to see if my photo made it up on the castle but I gotta admit if I did see it up there I'd be pretty excited. I already know that the media campaign (commercials, etc.) will work for me. I get all choked up when I see that sort of thing.

OMGOODNESS....wishing it was anything but that. :mad:This way Disney can use people's free photos and free videos instead of paying actors, models etc for cheaper advertising? U-G-H

My thoughts exactly. What was the point of all the hype? :sad2:

How soon before we start hearing complaints about a family vacation being ruined because their picture wasn't on the castle.:rotfl:

Ain't that the truth! I've been checking out the blogosphere and tweets. :surfweb: The general consensus seems to be what a lame-brain idea. Except for the few newbs who are just gushing that they are so excited and can't wait to see their picture on the castle!!!!!!! (yes, mostly in lots of CAPS and exclamation points!!!!!!)

I hope everyone paid attention to the whole announcement: "While we’re still working on the show details, producers estimate as many as 500 photos will be shown in each location every day."

So, that's up to 500 pictures a day. And how many thousands of people are at MK every day? How many disappointed people will that make?

CMs, get ready for a lot of complaints from people whose vacations were ruined by not seeing their picture on the castle!

2011 is going to be an interesting year at MK and DL. ;)

(sorry, I don't know why I'm getting such a chuckle out of this. I haven't posted so much for months :-))
