My husband and I are planning our first alone trip in 5 years to celebrate our anniversary. We're WDW vets, but have never been to DL. We're BIG planners when it comes to our WDW trips, and I know practically nothing about DL. We'd never dream of staying offsite at WDW, but since there are hotels within walking distance of DL, does it really kill the magic that much? We will be going 4 nights, and we're not worried about MM. Actually, we just want a fairly laid back trip, no demanding expectations, just to experience DL and have some quality adult time. (Only Disney geeks would consider that "quality adult time" could be had at WDW or DL!) :rotfl2:

We're going to WDW with the kids in Oct, so we'd rather be a little frugal about our March/April trip if we can. Now when we win the lottery, of course we'll be staying at a resort hotel, but until that happens ;), here's the magic question:

What in your opinion is the best hotel/motel within walking distance?

Any other helpful tips for DL noobs going kid-free would also be appreciated!

Thanks!
Christina

My choice for a without-kids-offsite-walking-distance-stay would be Candy Cane Inn. It's not the cheapest place you'll find, but not horribly expensive either. If you have AAA, you can sometimes get a $10 per night discount too.

DH and I are huge fans of DLR with just the 2 of us. We originally went for my 40th birthday and then because we had such a good time we went for his 50th birthday. Our 25th anniversary is Jan. 2012 and we are already talking about going to DLR just the two of us. :lovestruc We consider it a very relaxing and fun vacation. We love not having to ride something just because our kids want to (Roger Rabbit -).

We stayed in Garden Grove the first time we went and at HoJo the second time as a couple and preferred being closer and not having to drive. I would recommend something w/in walking distance - it just makes your vacation that much more enjoyable.

Hojo or Fairfield Inn for off-site hotels but to me their is alot more magic when you stay on property. GC or DLH are ideal. I would always rather walk through Downtown Disney vs. Harbor and all the traffic.

Another vote for Candy Cane Inn! No, it's not the cheapest place on Harbor but it's not expensive either and it's a lot cheaper than staying on site. Personally, I think it's the nicest looking hotel on Harbor. It's really just a 2 story motel but they've done a great job with the landscaping to make it look nice. I also love the free breakfast which i think is a step above typical free breakfasts (no hot food though except for toast and i think oatmeal). And I also love that it's within walking distance but there is also the shuttle so you get the best of both worlds. Oh and the free parking is great too.
