Here's the scoop - I don't like dresses. Well, not on me - others look perfectly great in them!! Does anyone have any ideas for something besides a wedding dress? I was thinking a cute black or brown pantsuit (minus the jacket, but maybe plus a very feminie vest) and sash belt. I know this may come as a shock to many brides, as many have dreamed of their perfect gown, but I just can't get myself to wear one. :crazy2: Please open your minds and help me find something just a perfect! Oh, and BTW, the ceremony will rest somewhere between "business casual" (I hate that term) and white tie... Thanks so much!

I didn't wear a gown either...I ended up buying a simple white dress.

Can I ask when you are planning on getting married? Is there a reason why an ivory or winter white pantsuit wouldn't work? I'm asking because I'm thinking if you are getting married in the summer a dark suit might get really warm.

Something that I did was look at mother of the bride wear...it tends to be dressy but not too overdone, you know? Depending on your age, it might be "too old" for you, but there are some lovely styles out there.

Hi LKlush I decided to just type in women's White dress suit just to see what would come up I know you said black or brown which are so much easier to find but I did come accross something cute. What do you think about this?

I think that looks nice and would probably look great black.

Have you thought about nice black dress pants, a nice fitting black shirt and then a scarf belt of whatever your wedding color is?

I like the way this looks as well.

I haven't told my DW yet but I want to wear chucks at my wedding...probably ones to match my vest. She is not really into traditional weddings either.

All of those ideas look and seem really nice! I'm planning on getting married in late October...or maybe later in the fall/winter time - so something white would probably be nice. The only reason I said black/brown was because i think I'd look better in it :thumbsup2 but I'll never know about white until I try it on. Although, as Si'sAm said, that white suite would look great in black w/ the satin trim and everything - very tuxedo. Thanks!

I remember seeing some tux makers that had great ones for ladies. They included styles with the jackets as vests. Something like that would look great. There were also dress alternatives made by some dress makers, pantsuits and such that would be worth trying. Of course, I also say go try on dresses at a really nice salon. You might be surprised!!

Here are some pictures I found on "theknot.com" under 2 pc. silouettes.
Hope it helps!

OK, so I don't want to deter you in any way from wearing what you want to wear but my suggestion would be to at least try on some wedding dresses, I know, I know you said your mind was made up but who knows how you will feel when you actually try dresses on. A wedding day is different than all other days and you just might like feeling princessy! If not then I think a white suite would look lovely. :goodvibes

I like a lot of the options shown here...if you've got time, definitely shop around. Maybe a nice skirt would work better for you (I tend to like them better than dresses...I don't know why)...

I also liked this outfit LINK

Thanks again for all the suggestions - I'm sure I'll find something perfect as I look around. I still have a long time before the wedding ever happens, and heck, by that time I might have changed my mind. Who knows? Going through a dress maker for a non-dress is an idea I never even thought of...hmmm...lots of thinking to do. Thanks again!!

Alexis Stewart (Martha's daughter) wore a gray pantsuit to her City Hall wedding several years ago. She looked very elegant, if not especially bridey. And one of the prettiest TV wedding looks I've ever seen was Miranda on "Sex and the City." She wore a rust colored velvet suit for an outdoor park wedding. It was a skirt, but would look very pretty with trousers.

Personally, I don't think it's a white dress that makes you a bride- it's the fact that you're committing the rest of your life to your one person. Foofy white gowns aren't for everyone and you should go with your gut, not tradition.

ok, I LOVE those.. especially the two in the middle!!!

I for one am also not a HUGE WEDDING GOWN girl... I stressed myself out for the longest time though thinking I HAD to have a huge, puffy, heavy, beaded, sequenced, cupcake dress... haha.. I got to the point where I was crying in the dressing room of bridal shops... please don't do that! If you know that you aren't a dress girl, then don't worry about it.. do what's going to make you feel comfortable and beautiful and special.

I ended up ordering a real simple bridesmaids dress in ivory and to me it looks elegant and simple but not poofy! I love it!

good luck to you and let us know what you end up with!

I say good for you!! There are so many preconceived ideas about what a wedding "has" to be and I think it's really easy to get caught up in them. I really was a puffy, princess dress kind of person but I also LOVE the idea of getting married in something stylish and cute - Jackie Kennedy or Chanel style.

If you know the wedding dress thing isn't for you then have fun shopping for something that makes you feel happy!

Would something like this be a dress you would like?

I know it's a dress...but it incorporates a "dress shirt" style as it's top, and gives a more casual look. This is actually the dress that I originally really wanted...in fact I was looking all over the place for a simple dress shirt, and full white skirt so that I could get this kind of look.
