Animator's Palate. Is it only me............

In the beginning it was much better, Mickey used to lead the 'parade' of servers and they carried sparklers. But times change and so does Disney based on guest feedback.

Rae,
You forgot to mention the fact there is no good shrimp dish on the menu. lol

You are sooooo right - no shrimp always makes for a BLAH menu!

HAHAHAH!

I will chime in with I thought it was fine. I think I was expecting a bit more "show" when really it's just a themed restaurant. My first time, so nothing to compare it to. The kids thought it was OK.

On the Western, it was just DH and I. Perhaps he was looking deeply into my eyes all night (right) when after dessert he said, "So when does the show start?" I explained that it had been going on all throughout dinner and asked him if he noticed the black and white pics gradually changing colors. He did and said, "That was it?"

We weren't impressed only because we mistakenly had expected more of a fanfare.

Maybe we should stop calling it a "show" on this board. That only leads to unrealistic expectations -- and the disappointment that it's not a bigger, better "show."

Perhaps it's that I'm a kid at heart and always try to give Disney "the benefit of the doubt," but I find the "light show" in Animator's Palate enjoyable, entertaining and refreshingly different. Especially when compared to those non-DCL restaurants trying to "cut-and-paste" when they should "think and create."

When we dined there the first time, last August, the wait staff did parade throughout the room with sparklers. Our server even grabbed my son and I (we were wearing somewhat distinct t-shirts for Mexacli... night) and we joined in the parade. It was a lot of fun.

Sometimes we take things for granted and forget the awesome ingenuity necessary to bring all these subtleties "to life." The "Disney touches" I appreciate may not always astound me, but still in all, the appreciation never wanes...

Very well said Buckaroo's Dad! I feel the same way. My family and I enjoy it, especially the end where they showed movie clips at the end of your dinner. We don't go in there expecting a show like Disney Dreams. It is much more enjoyable then sitting at some of the restaurants around here (home). ;)

I kind of thought it might be broke the night we went. The pictures kept changing from BW to color and back. Very underwhelming.

I think some of the post are talking about different subjects here (changes during the meal and the end of meal event).

The room does change from BW to color to BW to color throughout the meal.

The show part takes place at the end. Animated clips on the big monitors, the room changing, the walls changing colors (throughout the meal only the pictures change colors).

Some people miss the end part as they leave before that.

If you leave before the animated clips - you have missed the show.

And yes, we probably shouldn't call it a show.

There was a show? We were always the last table to leave the dining room - how did we miss it? LOL!

I may be alone in my opinion, but my family loves the show. Its not just the lighting but the music as well. I feel there is a distinctive marriage of music and light, and feel incredibly inspired to hear some of my favorite Disney songs collaborating with the visual perspective.

I would never skip it!

I have to agree with most posters. This is one case where being overinformed has a downside. My expectations were so much higher than what was delivered. I kept waiting for that big Disney wow.

I have to agree...felt cramped ...didn't like what was supposed to be a show??? I actually like Parrots Cay the best..best views..we had a table by a large porthole window.

I like Parrot Cay a lot, too! I love the tropical theme and the authentic music. I wish we'd get a table by a porthole one of these times, too. We always seem to be stuck in the middle somewhere.
