Am I the only one not impressed with the "show" in Animator's Palate? We have seen it four times and it just leaves me with a blank feeling. This last time we were seated next to the wall, behind a high server station, so we didn't experience much of the lighting effects. There must be someone beside me that was disappointed.

ME! When we went on our first cruise, I knew about the color changes, which we saw. We left without desert since DD6 had fallen asleep at the table. Our second cruise, I'd read on here about a "light show finale", which I figured we must have missed on the first one. Was really not blown away by this "finale"!

It definitely was not all that, but the children seem to get a kick out of it. We were behind that big serving station in every dining room which left much to be desired, didn't it?? Go figure ~
reserve your cruise 2 yrs in advance and get one the worst tables in the D/R. Warning...if you get assigned to the back area D/R tables #20-21... RUN!!
LOL

We actually had a pretty good table near the middle of the dinning rooms, and I still wasn't impressed with the show. I kept waiting for it to be more, and kept telling my husband to keep looking that something special was going to happen, but it didn't. I probably would have enjoyed it more, if I hadn't heard so much about it. Oh well, one of the very few downsides of this board and being so informed. That little bit of let down was worth it in exchange for all the great info I got on these boards!

We also were totally unimpressed on our first cruise. After reading all the hype about it We cancelled our prearranged Palo diiner once onboard so we could see te show. The kids thought it was neat but nothing special. We enjoyed our waiters much more than the show. On subsequent cruises we barely pay attention to it.

I was completely underwhelmed by AP, maybe it was just our horrible table all the way in the back by the kitchen - couldn't see anything. Oh, well, now I know exactly which night to plan Palo!

While I enjoyed it - it was much more "subtle" then I was expecting. I thought the changes would be more obvious - and if I hadn't read up on it before hand I don't know how much I really would have noticed it! So while I wouldn't say I was "disappointed" - it wasn't anything just so great that I'd worry about not seeing it a second time.

after reading different comments, i was a little disappointed in the show, and was somehow thinking there was more to come. It was cute, but somewhat of a disappointment.

My guess is that passengers who don't read the board and who don't have any particular expectations are delighted by the clever decor in Animator's Palate.

But first-time passengers who have read this board are expecting a "show" or a "light show" or a "color change show" -- in other words, they're expecting a real show, not just clever decor that changes over the course of the evening.

It's not a show. It's a fun restaurant, with a Disney animation theme. There are a few other little surprises.

But it's not Disney Dreams. Heck, it's not even Morty the Magnificent. And it's not supposed to be.

We weren't impressed with it the first or second cruise and probably won't on this upcoming cruise in 2 weeks. Very overrated.

Of course, we also think that Palo's isn't all that it's cracked up to be either...

I disagree. I guess maybe it's because our first experience was with no knowledge of it beforehand.

I think it's a great restaurant with a great theme. It's my favorite restaurant on the cruise.

I do miss, though, when they'd come out with the special dessert when the waiters switched their vests to color!

It's a restaurant; not a show.

Thankyou Plutojudy....
I thought it was just me and the Animator's Palette Show.
In fact I wondered if I had actually missed it :)
It is OK BUT nothing spectacular and wouldn't alter or look at it insofar as planning Palo or other arrangements around thats for sure.
Cheers,
Grumbo

I was under the impression on our first cruise that the food became more colorfull as the night went on. That the ketchup etc came in paint brushes etc. To me it was just a room with colorfull screens. I do not care for that menu either .. it is a shame that it was such a great concept but it seems like the ball was dropped along the way.

On our first cruise on the Magic in 1998 Anim. Pal. seemed to my husb. & I to be MUCH better. Although, it WAS all new to us then, even tho the first time we had no kids and the 2nd we waited in anticipation to see our kid's faces.
In Oct. 2001, when we went on the Wonder the vests were dull & the paint brush palates were gone. According to our server, the vests are 'washed out' & don't light up anymore & the palates are totally gone. In fact, they were up for auction on our last cruise. They were awesome. They brought out desserts & the palates had different toppings on them with the bristles of the brushes all lit up.
Even the excitement of the servers didn't seem as grand as the first cruise.
We could be wrong on this, it may just be our imagination in conjunction with all of the other stuff, but both my husb. & I thought the colors on the wall weren't even as bright.
We'll still go again, tho. That's when we actually get to 'see' our kids - at dinner!

I miss the palates too! The show is somewhat 'underwhelming', but to me it is like background music - there but you don't have to pay a lot of attention to it. However, on our recent 7 day cruise, I thought the menu/food at Animators was MUCH better than either the 3 or 4 day on the Wonder - so I guess it is a trade off. Plus, I do like the uniqueness of the place, so I would definitely go back. I was very underwhelmed by Lumieres/Tritons. I didn't particuliarly care for the food or menu on either ship, so if I had my druthers, I would chose Animators over Lumiere's or Tritons. To each his own.

I enjoyed it more the first time around. We had a terrible table the second cruise, so maybe that had something to do with it. But I don't think I'm ready to miss the show for Palo just yet. We are looking forward to dining there again in December. Maybe it'll be better than last time.

It's a shame what happened to the dessert there.

Yes, it was great. Making your own sundae, with the paint brushes and all.

That wasn't fancy enough for people - gosh, ice cream as dessert. Not sure why people complained. They have regular dessert every other meal.

Anyways, they went to a dessert sampler plate. Guess what - people must have said, wait, I want to choose my own dessert.

Now it is choose your own dessert just like every other restaurant.

I felt the show was great. It is a restaurant, so it isn't Illuminations. I guess people are expecting more - but every time I have been in that restaurant for the show - all 8 times - the crowd really loves it.

Here, we have so many negative comments. Trust me - on the ship - it isn't so.

Where you sit does matter there. Wish there were a way that every seat in the house was a great seat. Just isn't the case. It isn't the case where they say that either. Some seats are always better than others.

DisneyDebbie...I too was unimpressed and I keep asking my kids did you see the colors change? and they keep saying yes. I did know about it but never noticed it. LOL

AP is my least favorite restaurant.

The ceiling are too low and there are no windows so it feels tight and crowded. It also has my least favorite menu - althought the veal chop is very good.

Seems everytime we've cruised, the only time DS feels ill is the night we dine there. Otherwise, he is fine.
Go figure.

After seeing the color show once, it's no big deal now. If it weren't for having the servers we requested, I'd have gone elsewhere to dine.
