Hi: I have been hearing about an Animation Academy at DHS and have never seen it. My family has been to Disney three times in the past three years and have not seen it. Does anyone know where it is and do you have to pay for it? My kids would love to do this.

Thanks for your help.

It does not cost money. It's in the Animation Building, near the Disney Junior show, right behind the stroller parking area.

Thanks so much. For all the times we went there we never made it to that building. Will make sure to go next time.
:wave2:

There is also one in DisneyQuest.

Wow, I never knew this. Is it just like the class at HS? I have never been to DisneyQuest. How much does it cost to get in? Does the class get crowded? Seems like the past few years the class at HS has been getting more and more crowded.

It wasn't crowded when we went (that's not my picture).

I think it's around $40 per person to get into DQ but you can also use a Water Parks & More entitlement.

In HS it's called The Art of Animation and classes generally run on the half-hour. If you don't want to see the lame movie, you can get into the building through the art store near where the entrance to the Little Mermaid is. There are some interesting exhibits in between the store and the Animation building which are worth checking out.

There's a little waiting area for the class and when it gets full, they put up a rope and you'd have to wait for the next class. There are often some great character meetings in that building so the time goes fast.

In the class you draw a character (step by step) and you get to keep the drawing. I've got about 8 of them and they came out pretty good, if I must say so myself..... :scratchin

I've done Micky, Minnie, Pluto (a couple of times), Goofy, Stitch (yuk), Ray from Princess and the Frog, Donald, Daisy and I can't remember who else.

We've done the class in all 3 locations (there's one in California Adventure) and have drawn Goofy, Goofy and Goofy.

Good to know. My kids love this. Thanks for the info!

At the end of class have your kids go ask the animator for their picture. They will sign it and hand it over. Nice little souvenir.

We did Disney Quest because we had the water park & more option. That being said, my daughter did the animation class there and that particular class was drawing Donald Duck. We had to pay for the class I believe. I thought my kids, ages nearly 12 & nearly 8 at the time, would enjoy Disney Quest more.......they didn't. If it had not been part of the water park & more I would not have gone. My daughter loved the class but next time we will definitely do it at HS!

Thanks so much for the picture. My kids are upset we never did it. We will next time. Thanks again.:thumbsup2

the class at DHS is free and you get to keep the drawing, also free. Our animator was awesome and asked the class who has drawn who so we wound up doing Grumpy. I took my DNiece, and we both loved it!

I did it twice on my recent trip to CA Adventure and we drew Daisy and Jack Skellington. I've done Goofy before too. I'd LOVE to catch them doing STITCH!

Just my 2 cents...

Kids will have a really hard time keeping up with the animator. I found myself struggling to keep up, but maybe that is due to my lack of artistic ability. That being said, my drawing wasn't half bad. ;)

yes it is tough for the little ones....but that being said, its a wonderful thing to do over the years and see how your child progresses in their drawing abilities! my DD started at age 4 and is now 12, I've kept them all in our trip scrapbooks and love looking back at them!

FYI - I also pack a rubber band and large zip lock bag to roll our drawings and keep them protected and dry!

We did the class at DHS 3 times and drew either chip or dale (I get them confused), Stitch, and Goofy. The picture posted previously does not look anything like the room we were in. Maybe they remodeled it?

We also took a class at DCA this past summer. We drew Donald. There they post a list of the characters they will be teaching and the times of the classes. That was really nice because it enabled us to choose a character we had never done before.

I agree, it is lots of fun to see how different the drawings are from one time to the next! The first time we tried it, my son's chip/dale looked like he was on crack! He has a crazed look in his eyes! We laugh about it now. :lmao: He was 5 or 6 at the time that he drew it.

You can ask for rubber bands at the desk. Also take a paper towel roll and put your drawings in it to keep them from getting wrinkled. You can ask for the animators picture but if they do a trivia quiz and give it away don't ask for if they have another to give. They get quit nasty when asked. We found the males were very rude to our grandson, leaving him in tears, but the women were very kind. We loved the whole experience and will do it again in April. I think we did it five or six times in June. Oh and our grandson is six and always asked very politely so the rudeness was not called for by the males.
