I definitely prefer animals over people. And I'll get flamed for this, but I get more sad when an animal is killed by a jerk than when a human gets killed by a jerk. Animals are defenseless and can't plead their cases. Humans should be able to work their problems out without killing each other.

This statement truly disturbs me. Not all humans that are killed by a jerk can defend themselves, either, and a lot of the time are innocent individuals often not even knowing their murderer. How can you value an animals life more than a humans life? :confused3 :sad2:

Always been an animal lover. My pets don't judge me on what I weigh, how old I am, my gender, how much money I make, who my other friends are, what kind of car I drive....you get the picture. ;)

Animals love you just for who you are, pure and simple. I would NOT say I love my pets more than my son or my spouse, but in general, I do prefer animals to people. There are a heck of a lot more nasty, vindictive people than there are cats!

I've got to admit I love & TRUST animals over people. In a bizarre lifeboat situation would I save the person over an animal? Well, if I knew the person was a jerk - they'd be toast (or fish food) - but otherwise I would grab the person. Aniamls, like children do not have control over their environment, they need our protection. Most people put themselves in stupid situations through poor choices and I am sick to death of subsidizing poor life style choices (illegitimate kids they want WIC coupons and ADC checks for, drug use, didn't finish school, etc...). Just my opinion - the only people charities I give to are Salvation Army (because their clients work for the help they get) and Girls & Boys Town.
I am in total agreement with you on this one, I defineately like animals better than people and in all honesty I will take an animals side before a person, simply because stupid humans put animals into situations, people put themselves in stupid situation and they are SUPPOSED to be the smart species!

I totally agree. My mouth fell open when I read that post.

Maybe I should have been more clear, sorry if I disturbed you. I wasn't talking about innocent humans being killed. I'm talking about drug dealers, other murderers, molestors, sexual assaulters and the like. I don't feel sad for them, sorry! I do value the lives of innocent humans.

I hear what you are saying.
For me it's children and animals. Not that I don't get sad about adults, but hearing about something tragic about a child or seeing someone's pet as roadkill, really gets to me.

One time at work we were editing a show where something happened to a horse and a guy and I mentioned being more worried about the horse because it was so defenseless. This woman in the room went off on me on some insane tirade about this and that and how her dad is a cop (I think the guy in the incident was a cop) and how dare I say that. I was like geez, it's a tv show. Of course I would feel awful if something happened to her dad. When the woman left the room, my co-worker who was also in the room told me she felt more upset about the horse too.

This thread is verging on pathetic!

It sad but in general people do care more for animals. A perfect example is when the people who had the tigers at their home after they had rescued them from an out of business circus. The tiger attacked and killed the mother and the cops shot the tiger. Celebs and "animal lovers" poured thousands of dollars into a fund to help the lion cub. Not a single one donated to the fund for the now orphaned child left behind!

I love animals too! Animals (dogs in particular) are pure, both in intention and emotion.

Let's just say that animals don't know how to be jerks. They aren't vindictive or conniving. They don't judge you. They either love you or they don't bother with you. You can't say that about most people. :)

You also need to meet my cat Tycho. Definitely conniving. But I still like him more than most people. ;)

My aunt told me "I never pictured you having kids...just animals." And she was right. So, yes, the more people I meet, the more I like animals! Their love is unconditional.

I voted "Sometimes, it depends on the people". I probably should have kept reading and voted that they really can't be compared, but I didn't read it all the way through and jumped to an answer like I tend to do. :teeth: I love people and animals and it's a difficult thing to compare. Like my mom used to always say, "Don't compare oranges to apples!".

I'll have to say, though, that my cats sure don't give me the grief that my kids give me, but of course my cats won't give me the grandkids that hopefully my kids will! :rotfl2: (As my cat is sitting on the kitchen chair, licking his butt--something my kids have never done!)

:sad2: That's just sad.

It's also misleading. All it says is that people didn't set up a fund to care for this specific orphan. Why? Well, because there are already a ton of funds and programs in place to take care of orphans. Plus the child had family to step in and take care of it. It's not like nobody wanted to help out the kid so it starved to death. There were already things in place to take care of the* person*.

But there were no funds to programs in place for the*animals*. So people chipped in to help out. People being generous and giving of themselves to help animals in need.

In my book, that's about as far from "sad" as you can get.

I just don't understand how you can compare animals to people. Don't get me wrong, the world has some nasty people in it, and I in fact have a dog and cat that I both adore, but come on. People come first.
yeah.

love my animals but prefer people 9 times out of 10.

I don't think anyone is saying that the value the life of an animal more than a human being (at least I hope not). However, I'm not really a 'people person' and I often do prefer the company of animals. I am somewhat shy and introverted and I feel like I don't have to be 'ON' around animals. I can just pet them and give them affection without having to worry about making conversation, offending them, saying the wrong thing, giving them a bad impression or something to cause them to gossip about me to others. It is less exhausting. Of course, I do enjoy socializing with friends once in a while as well but it takes me a while to feel comfortable with people and I seem to 'connect' much better with animals.
