Animal lovers..need your help

Instead of offering advice like everyone else on here did - you accuse me of being a bad pet owner? Productive :thumbsup2

If we dont solve her problems, putting her to sleep is the only option.

Adoption is not an option - she would kill her next owner

Outdoor cat isn't an option either - she is declawed

Physically she is healthy...mentally...not so much.

We've had these problems on and off again for years, I am not willing to live with cat urine all over my house - especially with children!

Uh, I did suggest a product called Rescue Remedy.

What do you mean? I'm confused.

I guess what I mean is that if we wouldn't consider putting people to sleep because of their inconvenient behaviors, we shouldn't consider that option or animals.

If I'm not prepared to accept the responsibility of having a pet, the good and the bad, then I just wouldn't have gotten a pet in the first place. It's a commitment.

I am sorry you are going through this and I can relate to part of your problem. . A few years ago, our male cat was spraying/urinating right in front of us. I took him to the vet and unfortunately it was not something as simple as a urinary tract infection. I say simple because that could have been explainable and treated.

We were at our wits end and thought we were going to have to get rid of him. We AGONIZED over this for days/weeks because in every other way, he was a loving cat. The vet put him on buspar medication. It really helped. Even the vet called it kitty prozac. This may sound off the wall, but we also moved his covered litter box outside and put it into a big dog kennel. Now we take treat him like a dog and take him in and out a few times a day. Doesn't matter if it's winter, spring, summer or fall, he goes outside. The spraying and urinating stopped after a couple months of being on the medication. I have always been afraid to move his litterbox back into the house. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;) We do have another cat and I think he uses her litterbox once in awhile.

I guess the moral of my long story is talk to your vet again and see what other meds can be tried. If in the end it does not work out, then you will know in your heart and mind, you did everything you could. Our vet did tell us that if we would take him to the humane society and he was adopted out, if he had the same issue and was brought back, they would put him to sleep. Also a new owner may not be as kind as we were trying to figure out a solution. Good luck and keep us updated, if you can.
