We are due to fly to Orlando Dec 1st with Travel City for 14 nights. I have heard they have a special offer on Disney hotels and am thinking of staying the last 3 nights in Animal Kingdom Lodge. Can anyone give pros and cons for staying there? Meals, distance to the parks etc. Two adults one boy aged 6. Once there we plan on just doing Disney for the 3 days. :thumbsup2

Can only give a partial answer as I have never stayed there.

However, AKL is right next door to the park so I would presume you could walk to the park entrance from there - sure someone will confirm.

AKL is situated at the bottom left-hand corner of WDW property and you will either need a car, or will need to take Disney buses, to all destinations (including Animal Kingdom).

However, it is a lovely hotel and, due to its location, is often cheaper than the other deluxe resorts. The CMs are extremely dedicated and always willing to spend time talking about the animals and their habitats.

Boma (breakfast and dinner buffet) is extremely popular and with good reason. Jiko, too, if you enjoy fine dining. There's also Mara, a counter-service option, and the obligatory gift shop.

We stayed in AK in 2004 (Nov) it was lovely the foyer is particularly spectacular.

Boma is fab but $15 a head for breakfast is a little steep
Storytime around the fire in the evening is a must
Rooms can be a quite a lengthy walk from reception and amenities but overall I thought the hotel was fantastic. The attention to detail was out of this world even down to the piped music and the smells

I give it A +

As close as the AKL is to the AK, I have always wondered why they don't create some sort of walkway between the two. You have to drive or take the bus.

I find the bus system between the AKL and the parks to be very good.

The atmosphere at the AKL is unbeatable. :thumbsup2

This is our favorite resort. If you look at the pictures online and think you'll like it, then you will probably love it. The pictures just can't do it justice. The bus transportation is excellent. We stayed at the Boardwalk last year where the bus transportation was horrible, due to having to share with the BC & YC. The AKL may be a bit further out, but the it doesn't share transport with any other resorts.

There are lots of activities around the resort to try out. The pool is excellent, and there are two jacuzzis. There are also loads of places to view the animals.

We always choose a pool view, because it's our favorite. That also puts us closer to the lobby than some of the savannah view rooms which can be a bit far. (That is the only downside of this resort in my opinion.)

We absolutely loved this resort. I would agree if you like the pictures of it, you should love the resort.

The pool and dining options are very good, as are the staff and the activities.

Can echo the above, Ive stayed here nd loved it.The transport to the parks is excellent, which ever park you visit. I like the shop within this hotel its one of my favorite out of all the resort shops.
The only thing that i didnt like to much, was the self serv food court, this is the worst ive been in, on some of the onsite hotels.

I didnt find Boma's that good either.
The plus's are however many, and i wouldnt hesitate to stay here again
