Can anyone describe the Pangani Forst Exploraiton Trail and the Maharajah Jungle Trek? I take it they must be walking trips. How long are they and want can one expect to see? Anyone have any photos along the way of these trails and treks?

My kids love the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. It is really cool. You can really see the animals. We loved the gorillas, we were able to get great shots of them. I don't remember how long the walk took, but it wasn't short. If I had to guess I would say about 15-20 minutes. We have never tried the other one, but I would love to. I think it is definately worth trying to get to one.

These pictures were huge, so here's the links. I think our album is public so you may be able to click forward and back within our album instead of clicking on each link, but know that the Safari is in between Pagani and Majaraja.

Pagani Forest:

At the beginning of the trail is a small hut thing with skulls and frogs and stuff.

Then a creek with a glass edge so you can see all the fish:

Majaraja Jungle Trek:

Our favorite of the two. Amazing theming.

GIANT bats!

A cool bird exhibit. More like a giant building with nets for walls so the birds are all around you. They didn't swoop down or anything so it wasn't scary, just cool. I don't have any pictures of that though.

TIGERS! You're seperated by glass, like the gorillas, but both the gorillas and the tigers got very close to the glass for good pictures!

Then after the tigers is a big field with antelope and stuff.

Some theming and DBF:

Then some cool deep forest looking place with VERY educating CMs, as in the back left of this picture

Some neat theming:

Well, if you read my TR (link in signature...hehe) I have some pictures of the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail in there...;)

This is a good question for those that have had repeat trips. I have always thought early morning is the best time to see active animals? Typically as the day heats up they get progressively more lazy:cat: and :bored:

Anyone have advice on this?

We have ridden Safari in all times of day and the same for the trails.

Each an every time we get a different "show."
(And that even holds true if we just "go around again" upon return.)

There are those who prefer the early morning times, and they are great...
but we have never had what I would call a disappointing trip, regardless of the time of day.

The Maharajah Jungle Trek is beautiful. I love to walk through it. Not only can you see the tigers but the buildings are amazing. They look like ruins in India. My favorite time to go is very early on Sunday morning. I have gone before when I was the only one in the whole area. I like to go and get a fast pass for the safari and then go over to Asia while I wait.

pangani = apes
maharajah = tigers

that's how i sum it up.

I wish I could somehow take my friend's 3 year old on these treks; I think they are especially wonderful for young folks and animal lovers. There's lots of room, and you can stay as long as you would like in any part of either trail!

When we were there last week, we hit the tigers right before trail close at 5 pm and they were extremely active! I took tooooons of pictures of them from the upper observation deck. But the temperature was cool (probably upper 40s/low 50s by that time) and you have to remember that tigers (like most cats) are nocturnal. We've only ever done the safari first thing in the morning, so I can't comment on which time of day is best for that.

If you were to pick only one of the two, which would you do?

I prefer the gorillas to the tigers, but then again all we saw were sleeping tigers!
Can you go on these two trails with a scooter or must you walk thru them?

I wish I could really answer this for you, but the best I can say is I think you can ride. Hopefully someone who knows better will answer this! Can you ask over on the disabilities forum?

When we were there in September, we went just before it was closing.... I think we started about 25 minutes before it was to close (at either 4 or 5) and there were no tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not one.

We did get to see CM interaction with the bats so that was cool but not a single tiger.

I had been on the tiger trail many times before and it's one of my favorite places in all of WDW and usually you see tons of tigers to the point that you almost get sick of them but I was very disappointed to see none. It was my mom's first time on the trail so she was disappointed more so than myself.

Now we will make sure to go on it the first day so just in case they aren't there, we have 2 or 3 more AK days to try.

I really love both. The CMs that work in these areas are just amazing and so great to talk to. IMO, truly some of the hidden gems of AK. We tour them every trip. They're great when the headliners have long lines... you can relax and just enjoy the beautiful scenery of AK.

No, you don't have to walk. They are accessible. For the places on the trail where there are windows to view the animals, there will be a lower one that is viewable while sitting on a wheelchair or ECV.

You can also park the ECV to walk up the viewing area.
