I remember watching a special on the travel channel on Animal Kingdom and they stated that there is a "behind the scenes" tour through the animal clinic. Does anyone know if this is still available???

It was there this summer. We went on it a couple of years ago and had a wonderful time. I would definately recommend it.

I signed up to take the Backstage Safari tour in 10 days (11/21). When I get back, I'll post a report of where we go and what we get to see. I've heard different reports on what you see so I'm anxious to find out.

I took this tour last March and it was wonderful. You learn alot about the care of the animals, where they live, how they are bred, etc. Don't expect a lot of animal interaction though. You do get some, but it is a small part.

Feel free to ask if you any questions!

Do they feed you at all? I was kind of hoping they do. Also, did you see any of the aviary birds? And just wondering, I'm hoping the buses will go there early enough. How did you get there?

About mid-way through there is a snack break. It was package cookies, brownies and such. There was cold bottled water. I think it may have been possible to get coffee, but I really don't remember for sure. It was a small snack, but we got to "meet" a snake and a zoo-keeper who was big into reptiles. While we were resting, she told us lots of cool things about snakes. We got to touch the small (and I stress small ;)) snake after we were done eating.

I don't remember doing anything special about birds. I think there may have been a bird being treated in the vet clinic, but I don't remember for sure They actually take you into the clinic where the vets are working. It is cool. It was definitely more mammal based.

The tour started at 8 or 8:30 am, which was before the park transportation started. When I booked the tour, the reservation agent stressed that the buses would not be working that early and that we were responsible for our own transportation. We were staying on property and had a car. We used the free parking at the parks for resort guests. We did debate getting a taxi. I believe it was going to be under $10 for it. We stuck with the car.

Thanks Everyone! I am going to check into this and hopefully we will squeeze this into our trip in December.
