If we are parked at Animal Kingdom how long does it take to drive to AKL? Google maps shows me some weird winding path that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Thanks!
The winding path you’re seeing is the U turn on Osceola Pkwy as well as the 2+ mile drive from the parking booths to the actual lot and park. It’s a trek! You go past almost the entire lot, then enter from the other side.
If you're going from Animal Kingdom to AKL, try inputting your starting point as one of the parking lots, rather than DAK. For Instance, Unicorn, Bay Lake, FL 34747. Google doesn't give you the winding and U-turns on Osceola Parkway then.
That's what I was wondering - whether cars can turn right onto Osceola Pkwy. or if only buses are allowed in that lane. Cars are allowed to merge right and take that right turn leaving the AK parking lot, correct?

From the Animal Kingdom park to the AK Lodge resort area the watchword is "right". Keep and take right(s) wherever you may.
From the AKL resort area to AK the watchword is "left." Once on the main drag (Osceola Pkwy), get in the left lane. Then watch for the skinny left through the median to enter the AK parking lot.
If you miss a warning sign and end up in a restricted area such as the bus entry to AK you can always turn around and pick up where you left off.
Unless things have changed since the AK Villas opened, the bus entrance was at a traffic light where Osceola Pkwy. went straight through into the AKL resort area. The other leg of the intersection was Sherberth Rd. which is a "back door" to WDW and goes to Rte.192.
