Animal Kingdom Night Vision?

We are going to be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in 1 week. I have read a few things that mention the use of night vision glasses to view the animals. Has anyone done this? Is it a tour? Do you have to make reservations? Any information would be appreciated.

We went over T-day. There were just 2 pairs and a couple people there showing you how to use them. No ressies/cost for that. It rained while we were there so we looked at the inside overlook area. Normally they are outside.

We check out the night vision goggles last week. There were 2 CM's standing out at the end of Arusha rock with them...very cool. Just walk up and take a gander!

same here - we just walked around outside at night a couple of times and ran into a CM with the goggles. Once we had to wait a long time and once we were the only ones there.

We didn't even know about them but after dinner at Jiko's we went out to the Arusha Savannah, one of the CM's started talking to us and then offered me the night vision goggles. I thought (and maybe said it out loud) "You've got to be kidding. What do those things cost?!" Anyhow, they are cool and they do allow you to see alot better in the dark. Just like all those cool spy movies.

It was a great surprise since we didn't know about them. I suppose if someone was really looking forward to it in advance and built it up too much in their expectations, they might be a bit let down. They are cool but the animals didn't seem to be doing much in the dark. Trying to sleep.

the guide said to look up into the stars. You can see through any light haze and see many more stars. We enjoyed it.
