Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you end up waiting more than 20 mins for any bus destination, you can always talk with one of the CMs at the entrance and they can get a bus sent over pretty quickly.
This is not my experience at all. By the time you wait the 20 mins... and then discuss the isse with a CM... the "late" bus will be there long before they can dispatch another one.

Mistakes do happen from time to time... but when they do... the dispatch time to fix the problem is too long to be of any real help.

We stayed at the AKL on Nov 29 (Deluxe rm)Cash w/ AP discount $ 133.00 and on the 30th of Nov we had conc on points, my DD is a huge animal lover and wanted to do the sunrise safari(Tues and Sat) I do not feel that the conc rms are worth the extra money here! not when we are used to a 1 or 2 bdrm elsewhere. I figure that the rm plus the safari ran approx, $580.00 for a family of 4. not worth it in my opinion. Now the Deluxe rm for $133.00 per night I would do again in a minute, the AKL is a very nicely themed Resort and the pool was great, we also saw plenty of animals from the lookouts around the resort. Boma's for breakfast was great(made to order eggs @ a buffet) Dinner there was ...well we would'nt do it again, we were not crazy about the selections. Hoped this helped some?

we have to be guests, but could do the sunset safari as a magical gatherings tour. Wish the sunset wasnt so expensive- we will have 2 little ones with us.

I thought that seeing the animals was a "ho-hum" experience, I wouldn't pay extra for the savannah view. A pool view however, was great at $140 per night. You can't find this room for 14 points per night, so rent those points!! We rented our points to stay concierge for Friday-Saturday nights, on an AP the room cost us $416 including tax and extra cost for two kids over 18. It was definitely worth it to us for two nights, we wanted to do the sunrise safari and you can only do that on concierge level. The sunrise safari runs about $50 per adult, the sunset safari runs $150, and you can only do them twice a week, Tuesday and Saturday, I think.

I wouldn't do concierge longer than two days, because in order to get your money's worth, you need to stay at the resort. The concierge level schedule is: 8-10 am coffee, juice, pastries, fruit. 11-2 snacks like cheese and crackers, cold fish, tiny sandwiches, etc. 2-4 they added stuff, I think. 4-6 were oerdurves, 6-8 were desserts, and after 8 are evening cordials. We had a great time eating  You have to get there at the beginning time because once the food is gone, it's not refilled. We never ate anywhere else while on concierge, and several people just sat up there all day :D At the beginning time you have a nice selection of 8-12 items, but it goes fast, which explains why some people here had very different experiences on concierge. Going at each of the times helps for the staff to get to know you, so you can get tons of other stuff--no beer?? Ask for some, it's in back. I'd like water for the pool--out comes 4 bottles. I learned to like Bailey's and coffee while at concierge :D

Buy an AP, it's only about $300 with the DVC discount, and it is so worthwhile at AKL. You will make your money back right away if you are planning to stay anywhere besides at a DVC resort. And rent out those points, unless you can get concierge for 43 points(you can't).

We added on two days to our stay at AKL last month. We went from a one bedroom at SSR to a Savannah View at AKL. The room was smaller but the view was great. We had a great deal with an AP rate. It would have taken 84 points to stay in our one bedroom for the weekend, it was only $140 a night for the room at AKL.

The best part of AKL is all of the things for my boys to do at the hotel. One day we went to AK in the morning then spent the rest of the day at the hotel. My boys made Christmas ornaments out of ostrich eggs, we heard stories by the fire, we played find the hidden Mickey's, and find all the animals. We didn't care for Boma's but we LOVED Jiko's. I would stay here again if I had a great rate.

So I just told DH about this post. This is the man that did not want to buy DVC because he just loves staying in hotels. I asked if there was anything he wanted to add. He said yes " the room was very small compared to SSR and I felt cramped." I now have another DVC junkie. :D
