I plan on trying to read as much as the FAQ on AKL as I can, but not sure how far I'll get.

I was hoping some of you wouldn't mind sharing your likes, loves, dis-likes, etc. on AKL. I've got a Savannah View w/bunk beds booked right now, but still debating. We'll only be on property for 4 nights before having to move over to I-Drive  for a convention for dh, so I wanted to stay somewhere great for the kids for those few nights. {of course I really want to stay there too :teeth: } I've got an AP rate of $673 for those 4 nights, which breaks down to about $168 a night, does that seem like an OK AP rate? Sounded great to me, but I could be wrong!

Anywho, thoughts anyone? :hyper:

If that rate includes tax I think it is a great rate. The lowest I have seen for the Savannah view is $150 I believe. You will love the resort I can hardly wait to go back there! It may be farther away from most of the parks, but the resort feel more than makes up for that.

I love AKL. So far, it's my favorite WDW resort. It's great for kids. DD4 and I had a blast when we stayed there in August. Definitely eat at Boma. The food and selection is awesome. I'd try Jiko too. I haven't been there yet, but will be in 16 days! The pool is nice and so is the store. The lobby is beautiful and it is cool just hanging out and looking at the animals. I had a standard view room, but I still had plenty of chances to see the animals from the public viewing areas. I can only imagine it will be that much better for you having a savanna room. I can't think of one negative about it. People say it's too far away from everything, but I didn't find that at all. The buses are great and run often. It only takes about 10 minutes to get to any of the parks.

That rate sounds good to me. It's what I just paid on my recent trip for a savannah view. I love virtually everything about AKL - no complaints at all. Bus service is fantastic - I never waited more than 10 minutes and never had to stand, even at park closing (though I assume this might change in a busier season).

There are lots of activities around the hotel, pool activities, cookie decorating...they post a schedule in the lobby which I think changes weekly.

My latest room was on Kudu trail, 4th floor. I liked the slighty more expansive view than my previous stay on the 3rd floor. It's only a matter of opinion because some people love the 2nd floor because your even closer to the animals. Zebra trail is closer to the pool, if that makes a difference to you.

I enjoyed the food at Boma tremendously. I ate there twice for breakfast and twice for dinner during my 7 night stay. I wish AKL had a sit down restaurant for lunch though, your only lunch option is the fast food place called The Mara. I didn't try Jiko, but I did go on the culinary tour that they offer and it certainly made me want to try it on my next stay.

...it's a really great rate! I got std view in Feb (Prez Week) 2005 for $161/nite , not including tax (I think, about $179/tx incl.)
