I'm thinking of booking AKL for our last night as a surprise for DBF's birthday. It would cost £150 after Quidco- is this price ok for a standard view room?

Any other ideas are very welcome!

If you are looking to stay at a deluxe resort you won't find a better deal than animal kingdom lodge (best bang for the buck). It is a beautiful resort you can view so many animals and the restaurants are very good. Just sitting in the lobby is a true experience. It is one of the quieter deluxe resorts to stay at good for sleeping. It is a wonderful resort I highly recommend it.

I would look to see if you can get Savanah view, otherwise I would suggest staying at a deluxe with a better location. I am a very big fan of AKL and AKV but only with the view.

I was going to suggest a Savannah view rather than standard - I think that is the only draw for staying there especially for a 1 night stay. :goodvibes

Thanks all. Savannah view is an additional £100, which I can't really afford right now.

My plan was: Check out of OKW on Friday morning, check into AKL and stay there until late afternoon the next day when we're flying on to NYC.

Isn't there a general viewing area of the savannah within the hotel? I thought we could spend a lot of time there.

I stay at the standard view all the time. A lot of the standard view rooms have a view of the animals. There are numerous viewing place at the lodge where you can watch the animals. If you are only spending one night you won't find a better price for a deluxe room at Disney. I have been to Disney 52 times and animal kingdom is my 2nd favorite resort poly is my first but it is just to expensive for me. You won't regret staying at animal kingdom wonderful resort. I would not lie to one of my English friends.

I might also suggest if you have some time go miniature golfing at summer winter land it's a lot of fun and its not far from animal kingdom. It is right next to blizzard beach. You can catch a bus to blizzard beach and walk over to the golf course. It is a lot of fun for all ages I'm not a golfer but we always have a lot of fun there.

I must admit I do agree with other posters and that is if you are spending just one night at AKL then its got to be worth going for a savannah view that way you can sit on your own balcony and watch the animals instead of with everyone else in a viewing area. Very romantic with a nice bottle of something:cloud9:

We paid £150 for pool view - cheapest was Expedia, savannah was 230 but you may get an upgraded, it's fairly common from what I hear!

Otherwise I'd say not worth the hassle of moving resorts just for standard or pool, but worth the money to upgrade for one night to savannah!

Thanks pieface. It does look like an awesome resort. Good call on the golf too, that's definitely on my list for this trip! :goodvibes

That sounds great! I would love to go for a savannah view but it's a little out of my price range at the moment. If I booked the standard room, I guess I could try for an upgrade when I get there?

I have to disagree with everyone saying to stay in a savannah room only. I have stayed standard room and savannah. Both are good. But if you are going for the atmosphere and will discover a lot of the hotel it doesn't matter as there are plenty of places to view the animals without paying more. The benefit of savannah is that you see the animals when you wake up and when you go to bed. All other times you can go round and see lots of animals :thumbsup2
All over the hotel:thumbsup2

I actually booked standard room and then upgraded to concierge when I last stayed there which worked out cheaper for us than just booking a savannah room so maybe you could try ringing them for an upgrade price:confused3 like I did

Disney princess you chose a great resort at O.K.W. I stayed there once and was up graded to the one bed room suite loved it. It was like staying in your own apartment. I'm going to Disney in October and yes staying at A.K. standard room going to the Halloween party dressed as Darth mall star wars fame. I always enjoy talking to people from England and Australia and make the feel welcome to my U.S.A.

How about renting points?

I just priced on DVC request for you.

1 night savannah view in October (i dont know when you go) is 16 points. It's $14/per point so $224 which /1.5 is £149.33.

Or club level (not guaranteed view) is 18 points ($252 = £168)

If you can rent from an owner you'll get a better price than $14pp, too.

We've stayed AKL and AKV (both Arusha view in Jambo house) and we much preferred the AKV room. :)

Careful with recommending renting at this short notice, October has been booked up for ages. For a single night maybe but it isn't a given that renting is an option.

Hi we always book standard room and have never been disappointed, besides your on vacation so how much time do you spend in your room? Yes it is a bonus to wake up to see the animals but at AKL as many have said before the place has a great atmosphere, like sitting at Victoria falls at the end of the day enjoying a cocktail with DH while your 5 year old is asleep after such a great day, plus watching a film by the pool at night or going and looking through the night vision googles, there's just something about AKL that makes you feel relaxed and homely. We love the place, and I'm sure you will too.

As I said, I just priced for October. I don't know when OP is going.

that's a fab idea. I always forget about the renting of DVC points. I haven't done that yet but must do it at some point. :goodvibes

I have rented 3 times in the past off 2 owners off the UK site and saved a fortune. I paid a lot less than $14 a point mind you was 2010/11. AKL is a stunning relaxing resort. I have stayed 3 times now all 3 times in kidani. The wow factor lobby is in jambo but I prefer the quiet kidani.

Can only find one night available on Tuesday October 16th at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village in a Deluxe Studio with Savanna View for 16 points.

Or Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas - Jambo House in a 1 Bedroom Villa Value room for 24 points on Friday October 18.

These rooms were available at 12.33 today so you would need to move quickly to find a member with spare points for rent, good luck

Thank you everyone. :) You've all convinced me that I should go for it!

I actually enquired about DVC availability over on the DVC board but there was no availability. It's actually Oct 18th that I'm after so there must've been a cancellation? I'm probably too late now...
