I'll tell you how I do it, but my plan might not appeal to y'all at all.
I make a breakfast reservation for the Tusker House for about 45 minutes
before the park is due to open. (This makes for a nice unhurried walk up to the resturant, which is quite a ways from the enterance gate) After breakfast I make sure to be at the rope, and after it drops I walk quickly up to the fastpass machines and get a fastpass. Then I get into the standby line and ride the safari. (Most of the crowd is still walking up the path from the enterance gate.)
Then I use the remaining time (usually not much of a wait) to walk the nearby nature path, riding the safari for the second time befor walking down to other attractions.
Works for me.
