I read that it is good to see AK in the dark, which means going for EMH's. The EMH nights during our holiday are Wed 20th & 27th Aug, which will mean that it closes at 9pm & 8pm. Will it be dark then, don't want to alter the plans then find it's not dark.

We must be reading the same book! I tried this last year end Aug/beginning Sept-I think we stayed until about 7:30pm-8pm-no it wasn't dark-just dusk. I'm trying again this year on the EMH to 9pm on 20th Aug-want to ride Everest as dark as possible! Might see you there!:goodvibes

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm thinking it should be dark at 9.00 as thats when illuminations is on & i think that's in the dark. Top of our list is Everest too.

Good point-hadn't thought of that!:confused3

We're not in the park all day but eating at Yak & Yeti at 6:30pm, not sure what we'll do between that and EE. Dinosaur & Primeval Whirl will be out:rotfl: Kali river rapids would be OK I suppose. I wonder if they'll do any of the shows during EMH?

Are you allowed on rides until 9pm-i.e. they close queue at 9pm-or do they close queue earlier so every-ones ridden by 9pm?

AK in the dark is really good. We went on Christmas Eve when the park was open until 8 and then an extra 3 hours EMH. We were walking around at 10.30 and there wasn't a soul in sight. It was so weird walking around an empty park but was nice as the park is dimly lit with lanterns. Wasn't much to do there though except Everest and a special showing of Lion King which wasn't very full.

We are just going for the evening, about 7.30 as we have 2 Ak days already. Don't know what will be opened or till what time, hope some of the shows will or it will be EE,KR,EE, KR for 11/2 hours. Just need to re arrange our Raglan Road night, i have an adr for 8pm. plans, plans & more plans.

if you google (orlando sunset times 2008) it should give you a good idea as to when it starts to get dark.

I think you'd need to go for the earlier of the two (when the park closes at 9pm). That way you should get a good hour of touring after sunset. In any event, you won't be thrown out of any park at closing. As you probably know, the shops stay open for at least half an hour although, in my experience, AK tends to empty faster than other parks.

I think it's good seeing ALL the parks in the dark, the atmosphere is totally different.
We go in August too, 20th, so hopefully touch wood we will get Joshua out of the pool at the villa in the evening once or twice and be able to do this also.

Thanks for the replies. We love Ak, well actually we love MK & EPCOT too, so quite excited about seeing it in the dark. May see some of you there.

Agree that AK is really good at night, was quiet when we were there and it was really atmospheric being the only person going down the rapids, in the dark, with the burining logs etc
