Animal Crossing Issues...

   Why why why....

my coconut trees keep dying....is there a secret to keeping them alive?

:sad2: :sad1: :scared:

Oh no - no wonder.... I am such an idiot sometimes :upsidedow
I've been trying to plant them by my house - thought I'd try for a tropical environment in my landscaping design :rotfl2:

so I guess I need to plant them on the beach then huh? I am so ashamed :o

Not actually on the beach but just above the sand.

How do you catch a TUNA? I do the same thing I always do when fishing but that darn thing gets away every time. What is the trick. Help me before I go crazy.;)

My DS caught one on Sunday! He was so excited but he sold it already! I was hoping that since he caught a Stringfish Friday afternoon and then I came home from work and caught one, we would have the same luck with the Tuna. No dice.:sad2:

Actually coconuts need to be planted in the bottom "acre" of your town. AC towns are divided into 16x16 blocks called acres.

One square is a spot where you can dig, plant, put down a pattern, etc. You'll notice if you try to dig holes next to reach other, the whole town is layed out on a grid. An acre is 16 of these spaces on a side, and there are 5 acres across and 5 acres down in your town. You can find where these are by starting at an upper corner of your town and counting down along the cliff. It helps to lay down a pattern in the corner, move down a little ways and lay down another one leaving one space between them to make a dotted line. That will make it easy to see where the spaces are to count them.

An acre includes it's own borders so if you draw them out it looks something like this:

OOOOOO
O.........O
O.Acre..O
O....1...O
O.........O
OOOOOO
OOOOOO
O.........O
O..Acre.O
O....2...O
O.........O
OOOOOO

Find the top edge of the fifth acre and plant your coconuts anywhere below and including that row. The usual tree planting rules apply, make sure there is enough space to walk around the tree on all sides. Some spots will never grow trees no matter what, and replacing an existing tree will guarantee growth. Replacing existing trees is a good idea at first since coconuts tend to be in short supply.

The pine trees have similar rules. They won't grow anywhere below the top two or three acres.

Here's Nancy dressed as a Japanese manicurist among the palms.

Here is a visual to go along with what AC players have been telling you in the past responses. At the bottom is the ocean water, then above that is sand, and then above that is "dirt".

How do you know all this stuff? I am truely impressed....::yes::

Thanks so much for your help - now I just have to find another one of those darn coconuts.....
and, I now also know why pine trees I've planted in what I now know are in lower acres have died.
This "kids" game is a lot more that what it appears to be on the surface.

I stayed up last night till 1:20 AM playing this awesome game. Woohoo!! I made over 3 million bells yesterday!!!! Thanks Nancy and Ian, the crown looks awesome on you. I still don't know where you got your costumes but I haven't really bought anything at Able's or in town so it's probably there. Oh, and by the way it was Jan 11 in my town so I guess the turnips didn't rot. OK, my family thinks I'm insane and obsessed. And they thought my Disboards obsession was bad!

Okay, I'm a relative newbie to AC. I have been at it for less than a month, and have loved all the helps this thread has shared. I have my native fruit of apples, and now have planted a row of coconuts (can you do more than one row?)along the beach, which are doing well. I was able to also get cherries, pears and oranges as gifts, which I have planted to replace all but 2 apple trees so I get 1500 bells per tree now. I haven't been able to get peaches yet, though. I am currently Time Traveling back to October to get candy purchased for Halloween night to try to get that furniture set. I go to each day (sometimes finishing 2 or 3 days in a real day.) and take a couple of hours to harvest and fish; buy the piece of candy. I have about 2 million bells saved up after 24 days of doing this over and over.

What tricks am I missing if some of you are able to make 3 million in 1 DAY? Also wondering if there is a way to find out how much is in the Town Fund? I have the bridge and fountain, and have given some towards the next project, but I can't remember how much.

I have thought of leaving sets of tools around town (fishing pole, shovel, slingshot, net and axe) so I didn't need to carry them with me - especially when I am harvesting fruit so I can clear 5 trees at a time. I also have tried to split my town into 3 sections and just harvest one each day, so I don't have to run all over town each day. Am I way off base on these thoughts?

Once I get back to current day, I will be looking for some friends to visit and invite to town. (I know that I can just change the system date, but I don't want all the problems and weeds you get with jumping back and forth, so I am trying to make my way through October and November. I already lost a HUGE BUNCH of turnips because I ejected the game on accident once!)

THANKS for the helps you all have posted. I must confess that I am hooked on AC-CF! Hey, I know you can transfer stuff from the DS to the Wii game, but can you go the other way - from Wii to DS? My son has a DS he hardly uses so I could get the DS game and play that and always have it close at hand!

If you are going for the Perfect Town (perfect number of trees, flowers in every acre), then this will probably screw up your score. For anyone that doesn't know, you can ask Pelly at the Town Hall about the "Environment" and she will give you the score. Mine is awful (I always get the D or C- answer). But, if you have random stuff laying around like tools or shells in random places (not on the shoreline), then it affects your Environment score. But, if you're not into that thing, then having tools all over town is very convenient!

You can also store your tools in letters. I have 4 letters addressed to the "future me" which I leave in my outgoing mail all of the time. I stash tools in there to free up pocket spaces. I addressed them to the future me just in case I get mail happy and mistakenly mail them.

:)

You don't need to be on the same day to wifi with someone else. That's how the 3 million day happened. We had a 500+ turnip price at Nooks, while Jan's town was on Sunday. We all took turns buying from her Joan and selling at our Nooks a few times.

If you keep your palms within 8-9 spaces of your beach you should be ok. I have some planted at the back corners of my house which is near the ocean.

Unfortunately there is no way to find out how much you have donated. The best way is to save up and donate all at once.

The letters are also convenient for fruit, you can take 25 at a time to Nook rather than 15.

Ack, I haven't been able to play in over a week now! My animals have probably all moved away. :lmao:

Looks like lots of good tips in this thread, though; I shall have to read back. Still hoping to meet up with some of you, too. Whenever I get to play again. And assuming Tom Nook didn't foreclose on me. ;)

Ok - so I've killed a fair share of coconut palms because I planted them in the wrong places...

I took a beating on turnips this week - knew it was going to happen, last week's price was ssssooooooo high...

I can't catch that darn Tuna...

BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>> I have the most beautiful pink roses :yay:

We cant get the Tuna either!! And I have a feeling that we will mess up on our first try at turnips this week. My DS saw they were $115 today so he unloaded the ones he bought at $107. I am holding on another day just to see what happens. I would rather lose the bells than him!:rotfl:

Do you remember what the turnip price was last night (the price changes at noon and midnight)? If 115 was this morning's price, and it was the first time prices went up, then your highest price will probably be tomorrow morning.

Our price went up last night to 98, then this morning it is down a little to 96. That means we are having a low spike week which will probably peak tomorrow morning no higher than 200.

However I am hoping we can sell our turnips at 500+ in someone else's town. I'll be keeping a close eye on the AC:CF board at GameFaqs tonight.

I am probably missing something.....

Is there a reason I may WANT to catch a tuna? Does Tom Nook give you a special prize? Will it turn into furniture if I bury it for 3 days?

This morning I had my coffee for the sixth straight day. I have a ton of robots so I am hoping for the penquin storage option soon.

I plan on dedicating saturday morning to increasing my orchard sizes. I do have to pay off my mortgage to get the 2nd upgrade.

My last turnip price was 168, however I did not buy any for 95 on Sunday. If I warp back to Sunday to sell today all my new crops I planted should remain intact, right?

well in my town yesterday was Saturday - so I had to sell no matter what. In the morning they were around $96 I had paid $103, then at night it went up to $115 - I sold then. I didn't lose, but I didn't have the landfall that I had the week before.

Thanks for the link to the AC board. I'll be checking it out too.

The Tuna is just a hard fish to find and its worth a lot, plus getting it for your museum.

Be careful time jumping. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if you time jump your turnips will rot and be worthless. I think if you change your Wii time its okay, but if you change the AC time they will rot...
