Animal Crossing-City Folk

I am having problems building snowmen now since we only have one tiny patch of snow. It annoys me too because I only need a few more pieces to have the complete set. :headache:

I have that same problem with the fish -- I guess my reflexes just aren't that great anymore! It's probably the tuna, the only other hard-to-catch fish that's around in December is the coelacanth, and it only comes out when it's snowing or raining. I have the same problem in reverse in the river -- there's this one tiny fish that always gets away! It's either the goldfish or the pop-eyed goldfish, either way I can't catch it.

And don't even get me started on the dung beetle! By the time I figure out that he's near the snowball, he's already gone:sad1: . It took me 8 tries last night to catch a mole cricket but I finally did it -- they move fast!

I haven't tried it but what if you chopped down some trees? Maybe there would be snow where they were that you could use for building snowmen?

Our snow is gone too... it makes me sad.. :sad1: I don't know about the time travel thing either, I'm too much of a chicken to try it! :upsidedow

I am having a very difficult time catching an extra large fish in the sea. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to catch that big guy?? I have seen him about 20 times now and can't seem to catch him! :headache: Very frustrating!!
Also, I have caught a Tuna, is that him and I have only managed to catch him once? I have no idea. Every time I see the extra large shadow in the sea I get excited, then can't land him. Any help would be appreciated!

This sounds weird but have you tried closing your eyes when the fish starts nibbling and not going by sight but by the vibration of the controller in your hand and the sound? Every time I have tried to catch a fish that swims under a bridge, I have been successful because I can feel the right time to reel him in even though I can't see the bobber.

I don't know how anybody could catch that darn thing.

me too. under the bridge or not, i can feel the heavy tug vs. poking feel. the bobbing goes under the water (if i remember correctly) and the vibration is mor intense. this is when i reel in.

Unfortunately, we don't even have enough snow left in our town to build a snowman. Does anyone know, if I time travel to say, June, then time travel back to January, will the snow come back? Conversely, how long would we have to stop playing the game to let the snow come back on its own?

You would have thought someone would have picked up this glitch in their testing phase:headache:

I read somewhere that time travel might help, but not if you do it in one big chunk. For instance, don't go from today (1/14) and just make it suddenly June. Instead, increase the time by one day at a time, but DON'T do anything in the town at all.

Before you try this, try planting some trees and flowers in your "bare" areas. That may help grass/snow to grow more rapidly.

1) Log in as normal. When your character shows up on the front porch, immediately log out. Don't step off of the porch at all, just shut down.
2) Start the game again. When Rover comes on, select "Other Things", then "Set Date/Time". Advance the calendar by one day. Then log in with your character.
3) Again, as soon as your character is on the front porch, log out.
4) Repeat steps 2-3 until you've advanced a significant number of days.

We tried this and it worked a little bit - we did get a few more patches of snow around, but not a huge amount. I think planting trees helped more than anything else. We're only about a month ahead of "real time", so maybe doing it more might have helped?

You'll still have the same issues that another poster mentioned about time travel - weeds, townsfolk moving away, etc. But it does avoid bed head.

I can't stand the snow and I have tons of it... You guys can all come and take it away from my town for me if you want :rotfl2:

Not weird at all! Or at least if it is, then I am weird too! I have tried that a few times with the big fish, and still come up empty. I can do it with catching the fish under the bridge though! So I guess I'm getting better.

I'll keep trying!

The bug I'm having a hard time with are those darn bees!! :headache: I can't seem to time getting my net out and swinging at them in time to catch one.. I just get stung. I have found though, that getting stung multiple times does no worse damage to you!

I know what you mean. Once I get stung, I just keep shaking more trees since the damage is already done.

OK, we tried moving up one day at a time and it worked! The funny thing is when we moved back to the current day there were so many changes! While time travelling we had two neighbors move out, we got a Nookingtons and there were tons of dig spots. DD, DS and I each got 4 or 5 of those gyroid thingies and a few more fossils. We're going to try it one more time today -- we should have almost all our snow back, yay!

Oh my gosh that fish is driving me crazy too!!!! :headache: Every time I try to reel him in, he swims away :( So, if you find the trick, let me know too. My son caught a tuna once, I have not. I have caught a couple of string fish. I have one waiting in my house right now, for the fishing tournamnent this Saturday

Do you know the quick way to get your net out? Instead of going in to your pocket and choosing the net, you can press left or right on the directional pad on the remote. The order the tools come up depends on how you have them arranged in your pocket so it might take some trial and error to make sure the net comes up first. That makes it much easier to catch the bees. You also need to run a few steps away from the tree before you try to catch them.

I am going to go ahead and post my friend code info. I have forgotten who exactly I have pm'd, so if you want to add me, please do. Don't forget to pm with your info. I have a few of you added already. I know two of the people I added have town names of Epcot :)

Cool! Thanks for the info! I do have a question though... Do you go after the hive or the bees after they are swarming around chasing you?

I really don't like those darn bees!

That is SO funny! I have a string fish in an aquarium in my house too! I couldn't part with him! :rotfl:

Now about that tournament... Can you use a fish that you didn't catch that day? If so, a string fish would be really good to have! And, do you get the fish back? Those things are worth a lot of bells!

Now I just hope DH doesn't want to go out of town this weekend. I'd hate to miss my first tournament! :)

I have a question for you guys, hope you don't mind!

I had the original version of Animal Crossing, and I'm thinking of going out tonight and picking up this new version for my Wii. But I saw online you can buy just the game, or the game with Wii-Speak? Does anyone have it with the wii speak? I know it's not necessary, but I'm not actually sure what that extra component even does.

TIA!

ok.. I had to come report that I just caught a tuna. The shadow it made in the water "looked" like the extra large fish that has been eluding me, but I'm not sure it was the same one (because I caught this one! ). It looked like a large shadow, but I'm not sure if it was as large as the other one I've seen. Anyway! To catch it, I pushed the A button and jerked the Wii remote up like you would with a real rod and reel (I hope I explained that right). I have no idea if that was what helped me catch the tuna or not.. I dunno.

Now I'm wondering if I should keep it for the tournament!

You can use a fish that you save from another day but you do not get it back. Usually a sea bass is enough to win.

Thank you to whoever it was that told us how to switch out your tools, it is a great help.
