Angelrose's Journey

Glad you made it through the services and were able to have some laughs, it's good to remember funny things at a time like that. Was he buried in the veteran's cemetary in New Egypt? That is where my parents and FIL are buried. I believe the name is Brig. Gen. William Doyle Veterans' Cemetary?

Well now I have caught a really bad cold, I don't mind a head cold, but it scares me that it is going into my chest today. I'm staring at a pile of laundry and just can't get up the energy to bring it down to the laundry room.

I guess I'll have some more tea and vitamins and hope for some energy this afternoon.

I'm sorry Zoey has a fever, it seems like there is a late winter bug goind around

I babysat Zoey for the morning and felt great. Poor little Zoey wasn't. She just cried all the time. I felt so bad for her.

Then around noon time, I started to feel bad. Then I got the runs. I called Karen and she called Chuck. She called back to say that he was on his way home. I apologized and she don't worry, these things happen. As soon as he came in, Zoey gave him a big smile.

I drove home and the first thing I had to do was get the pork tenderloin out of the slow cooker and shred it. I was so tired, but it had to be done. I cleaned up, put most of the pork in the freezer and went to bed at 6.

I didn't get up except to go to the bathroom every two hours all night. I got up this morning and got the paper and went back to bed. I got up around 10 and watched tv for a while. Then I took another nap. I am so thirsty all the time. I've drinking blackberry lemonade and that seems to help. I had a PBNJ for lunch and a piece of cheese for dinner. I am taking Immodium but it hasn't seemed to help so far.

Tonight it seems to have slowed down a bit. I think I am getting a head cold to top off everything.

This is a mean bug. I am definitely going to miss my WW meeting tomorrow night. But I'll bet I have lost 5 pounds!

Thank you LizabethSwan. I feel a bit better, but still not well at all. Spend most of my time in the bathroom or sleeping.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be on the mend.

Thank you my friends. I do feel better today. My son brought me ginger ale and jello and gatoraid. That has been a Godsend. I drank one can of ginger ale and almost a quart of the gatoraid and two of the little jellos. And I'm still thirsty. I just have to take it easy so it doesn't zip out again. I've eaten some solid food today and it stayed where it should, so I think I am on the road to recovery.

I am still very tired, but I did sleep for two hours this afternoon and that helped.

This was one mean, nasty virus and I sincerely hope none of you get it.

Hope you are feeling better this week  I've had a sinus/headcold and it is knocking the heck out of me - I've been sleeping ten hours at night and waking up exhausted.

How are the little ones feeling? Hopefully spring is about to be sprung and we will all get back to normal soon. :flower3:

Oh my I hope you get over your sinus infection quickly. I know those can really drag you out too. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

I am definitely on the mend. I still can't take my walks like I used to but am getting better.

Jesse and Zoey are well over their colds and fevers. Thank goodness.

I did some grocery shopping this morning and got my corned beef and some Napa cabbage for St. Patrick's day. I like that better than the regular cabbage. I so wanted to buy some Irish soda bread but I know that would not be good for my WW plan. I know if I buy it I will eat it and not just one piece. So, it's better left at the store.

Angelrose,

I have a great Irish Soda Bread recipe, very simple, and with few ingredients, that I'd be happy to share with you if youwant to try making your own, more WW friendly recipe. Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Chris

I made an Irish soda bread yesterday. Today I'm making my coleslaw, and tomorrow is the corned beef and cabbage with boiled potatoes and carrots. I can't wait!

Sorry that I've been missing all your updates, Angelrose. Glad to hear you're feeling better. It's so nice that you are available to babysit the grands when they're sick. But, not if you get sick too! Was it a different bug than they had?

(And, BRAVO! on the weight loss!)

majimikate, I would LOVE to have your recipe for Irish soda bread! That you for offering.

snappyd, I have my mouth all set for tomorrow's corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and carrots too. It's already calling my name.

minniecarousel, thank you. I have been feeling better. The kids both had cough and colds, Chuck had the same thing as me, but he had it at both ends, but for not as long.

So we are all on the mend, thank goodness.

I had a wonderful dinner at their house tonight. I got to hold Zoey and see those big smiles and the big hugs from Jesse. He gets so excited when I come over. Just makes me melt.

Here it is, Angelrose. This is the recipe my grandmother made every year, and that I have made and given to friends every St. Patrick's Day for as long as I can remember! There are no caraway seeds or raisins in this one, as it was a peasant bread in Ireland and those items were expensive! No eggs or anything either, as that would make it a cake by Irish standards. But for a whole loaf, only 3 tablespoons of butter, so I hope it works for you on WW.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! I hope you enjoy it. I've got 5 loaves fresh out of the oven right now!

Maureen's Irish Soda Bread

2 c. all purpose flour
2 TBL. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 TBL. butter or margarine
1 c. buttermilk

 Preheat oven to 375*
 In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt
 Cut butter into mixture with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
 Add buttermilk, mix with fork until just combined.
 Turn onto lightly floured board and knead gently until smooth,
(do not overknead) and form a ball.
 Place into greased cookie sheet, flatten into a 7" circle,
about an 1 1/2 thick.
 Press a floured knife through the center to form a cross,
but do not cut through to the bottom.
 Bake 30-40 minutes, until top is golden and loaf
sounds hollow when tapped

Thank you majimikate. That looks fairly easy. I may put in the caraway and raisins anyway. I do love both.

I will ask my leader if she can figure out the points value. If not, I can always give a good guess with the butter and flour.

I sauteed my Napa cabbage and added the corned beef at the end, just to warm it up. I added my boiled red potatoes with fake butter and I had a real feast.

Chuck is coming over early tomorrow to help me with some chores. It's going to be a nice day so I will get out in the afternoon for a nice walk and talk to my friend. A good day.

Hi snappyd. I am doing well thanks. I am back with tracking all my meals. I hope I have lost some weight this week.

Chuck called this morning to ask if I could babysit Zoey for a few hours this Saturday. Karen is taking Jesse for his first soccer lesson and Chuck is going target shooting with his buddy. I get to play with Zoey from 8 until noon. I hope I can keep her occupied.

I've been putting away my St. Patrick's day decorations and taking out some Easter stuff. That will keep me busy tomorrow when it's supposed to rain all day.

Ron used to love all my decorations. Somehow I feel closer to him when I decorate the house.

I just read your trip reports AngelRose -- what a wonderful writer you are!

I'm sure you know but you are certainly an inspiration on how to live life to the fullest! I loved the pictures of your family. You can certainly tell from the smiles that everyone is having fun.

Just wanted to say that I believe yesterday was the first day of spring so Happy Spring everyone!:flower3:

I can't believe I woke up to snow this morning :scared1: Maybe some Easter decorations will convince me it really is spring! :upsidedow

Thank you for reading all my trip reports Grumpy's Gal. And thank you for the compliment. I did enjoy writing them.

I can't wait to go again next year. So far the plan is to go the end of January/the beginning of February. The kids maybe renting a house for us instead of staying on property. With two kids, I think that is the best idea. But it will be sad, not to be staying on property. It just adds something to the vacation.

This is definitely NOT spring weather here either snappyd. Although we didn't get snow, we did get showers all day off and on. Just now we had a thunderstorm come through! Such strange weather.
