So who else watched and what did you think? I was disappointed at the ending.

OMG....I wanted to cry it was so bad...that was a finale????

Yep.......I am hoping they lefty it like that for a possible return of the series? Isn't there a campaign to save Angel? I am a fairly recent fan, and I do mean recent! LOL

when they first announced the cancelation, they said "possible" TV movies or even a feature film...could possibly explain that ending...I have watched since the beggining and was really disapointed....

I was disappointed too. Of course I am comparing it to the Buffy finale, which IMO was essentially flawless. I think there was too much Jeff Bell and not enough Joss. The Wes/Illyria scene did turn on my waterworks though.

Okay, I just spend the last ten minutes ranting about this in my own post. Yes, I'm a little ticked. That wasn't an ending!!! Angel's suppose to get his soul back gosh darn it!!!

And what happened to Buffy??? SMG was suppose to have been signed on for the finale.

And I was also sure someone would find out that they could do the soul resurection spell on Fred/Illyria to bring back Fred, only it would be Fred with super powers. I thought that would be cool.

:sad1: Waterworks here too! Dh thinks I'm nuts...crying one minute and swearing at the tv like crazy next!

Come to think of it , I'm pretty ticked about the treatment the Shanshu Prophecy recieved in the finale. Having him sign it away=lame, cruel and predictable.

I watched it with my DD and DS. My DD is a big Buffy/Angel fan and she thought that the show was starting to wear a little thin, plot wise. I guess they ended it like that to leave an opening for a possible movie...continue the apocalypse or whatever...

I guess the kudos to the fans were for all the "Save Angel" petitions that were circulated.

I'm glad Wes and Fred can be together now...boohoo

OK so I have some questions, can someone answer them? When I said I was a recent viewer, I meant reallly recent. I am currently watching season 1 on DVD.
Does anyone know why Glenn Quinn (Doyle) left the show so early? Was it a cast tiff? Does anyone know what the actor actually passed away from?
Also, in watching the show last night, I noticed Cordy was no longer there, and then heard some mention of Doyle, Cordy and Fred being gone. What happened to Cordy? Don't worry about spoiling anything for me. LOL I just want to know.
What in the heck was that Illryia character?

That ending drove me nuts, too! SO unfair!! I was emotional to begin with, what with this being pretty much the end of the whole Buffyverse, but then they go and do THAT?

Man am I going to miss James Marsters every week!

The Actor playing Quinn left after 6 weeks. Rumors were that he had a drug problem that prevented him from working on the show and eventually killed him.

Cordy's story was rather involved, but basically she was posessed by something bad and later died. They really messed with Cordy's character during seasons 3 and 4.

Illryia is what is left of Fred. A few episodes ago Fred was posessed by Illryia (a very old, evil demigod) and the experience destroyed her. All that was left was her body, which Illryia took over.

(copied from my thread which I started before I found this one)

At first I didn't like the ending. Leaving on a cliff hanger where it appears certain that everyone left in Angels gang was going to die seemed a sour and incomplete note to end the series on. The I realized it wasn't a cliff hanger. The more I think about it, the more I like it. The idea was that, in the big picture, it didn't matter if they lived or died, what mattered was that the fight against evil go on.

I was a little suprised when they killed Wesely, but he was a hollow shell of what he was before Fred died and at least he got to die fighting for a noble cause. I thought the final scene between him and Illyria was very sad and very well done.

Spike's poetry reading was wonderful.

In the end, I felt the most for Lorn. The poor guy just got caught up in a situation that went way beyond his control, and he finally ended up having to kill for the cause. When he pulled that gun out and shot Lindsay, I nearly fell over. Doublecrossing anyone is not in Lorn's nature it was obvious he felt guilty and resented being ordered to do it. You just had to feel sorry for the guy.

It was a very dark ending to a show that has been less dark this season, but overall I think I liked it.

That is a shame, he was such a likeable character. I hated to see him go on the eppy I watched yesterday (Hero). I was tearing up. Is there any real good Angel boards or sites? I am also a Charmed fan, and I have a really great board and site that I pop into every once in a while, that gives spoilers, eppy discussions, news etc etc . Is there something like this for Angel?

This doesn't come anywhere near the reaction I had. DH (who only occasionally watches the show and didn't see much of this season at all) was sitting next to me and when he pulled that gun out and just shot Lindsy to death, I believe my exact words were, "Oh my @%&$ing GOD!" I mean, that's just how much it surprised me. DH turned around and looked at me like I had just witnessed the end of the world or something. But it's just that Lorne was NEVER really a fighter. It was definately a shocker.

I wonder why we couldn't have had a 2 hour series finale??? My mom (who doesn't watch the show at all) couldn't understand my anger. She watches Alias. (I don't watch that show that much) but I told her to imagine Jennifer Garner's character looking for her sister then someone tells her exactly where to find her sister but she has to beat up and kill this huge group of warriors standing in her. Then they show her about to start kickin' butt but before she can even take one punch or even a kick, it goes off. My mom was like, and? I was like, and nothing...that's the end. She was like, yeah, that would suck.

It's not really about how it ended but rather how it didn't end. I understand they wanted to leave it open and stuff, but they didn't even go out fighting. At least we could have seen a few fight scenes, right? Instead, they just there being ready for it. I would have liked to seen Angel take on that dragon he was talking about :D

Let me make sure I understood the finale right...Did they piss off the senior partners so bad that they just brought on a full-fledged apocolypse??? Or were these just all the demons they could gather up just to go get rid of Angel and the gang? See, I didn't really understand the very end. Weren't they suppose to be setting the senior partners back so there wouldn't be an apocolypse for a very long time or something??? Instead, it seeemed to me like Angel just started the apocolypse himself.

A great website is www.televisionwithoutpity.com

From what I've read about the actor that played Doyle was that it was always in the cards that he would be let go. Joss got a lot of backlash from that and was really surprised. The drug proglem is what killed him though. The guy that plays Doyle played Becky's boyfriend Mark on Roseanne by the way - and yes he was Irish.

I thought the ending sucked. period.

I didn't much like the ending either. I wouldn't mind seeing Spike getting his own show. I SO love Spike.
Wes dying in Fred's arms made me cry. I so loved Spike's poetry reading. It made me laugh. I was expecting him to be getting ready for a bar brawl.

WDWHound - I agree with you. It was a disappointment at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I like it as well.

With Buffy, they had the whole season to work up to a nice, finished finale, but with Angel they only had a couple of episodes to flush it out. The flow of this season shows that. I really enjoyed this season and am very disappointed that it has all come to an end. :(

From what I heard, the series finale wasn't written as a series finale...just a season finale. Since WB didn't give the word until there were like 4 or 5 episodes left, they didn't have time to rewrite and shoot another episode. But then Joss said that the episode will also work as a series finale that can leave the door open for a possible movie. For some reason, I doubt we'll ever see a movie :(
