Ok, maybe rumor is more accurate. But a poster who's at AKL was told by her bellman that they're working on the interior and that they're ahead of schedule.

Any word from the boat drivers on the plans for that new building by the CR?

Seriously, I hope the bellman is right. Does anyone remember any of the DVCs opening ahead of schedule?

We were told in February that Kidani was WAY ahead of schedule - which makes me wonder about the May 1, 2009 date. I was told in February by my guide and another guide that they thought rooms would be available by the end of 2008. Don't know if they have decided to wait and open the whole resort at one time or not. It's kind of looking like that.

Just looking at the building when I was at AKV a week ago, it does appear to be ahead of schedule. In other words, that rumor is believable. Of course, I could not see what work was going on inside.

In terms of opening earlier than May 1, my guide implied in January that part of it might be open by the end of this year. It does appear that the plan has changed. And there is also the announcement that was made about the Okapi being added to the new AKV savanna. I think it will be called something like Pembe. In that announcement on the member site, it says that the new savanna will open with the opening of the second phase of Kidani September 1, 2009. That is DVC publicly stating that it will not all open by May 1.

And remember, even if the whole thing is finished, the inventory cannot be used by members using points until units are declared into inventory. So the amount of rooms available on points by May 1 may not equal all of the rooms completed.

Are you kidding? The Bellman? Do they let the bellmen sit in on the General's project manager/foreman coordination and schedule meetings now? Though it might look nearly done from the outside, without a construction schedule in hand and an eyeball inside the building, it's nearly impossible to tell the state of a project.
Unless there are significant bonuses for accelerating the schedule, it's unlikely that any construction project will move ahead of schedule. From the project manager's viewpoint, it's more expensive to do so.
Always consider the source.

Interesting info, both of you. I hadn't seen the bit about the new Savannah opening until Sept. 1.

Yes, I don't expect the bellmen to have the most accurate info.;) That's why I also asked about the boat pilots.:goodvibes It's a long standing joke on here that lots of CMs share info.

And I'm aware that at WDW, those who talk don't know and those who know don't talk (to paraphrase Sammie).

It was all in good fun.;)
