My dad and my brother have decided to join me and DS9 on our trip to WDW! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

He was watching some disney vids today with me on youtube, and decided on an impulse that he was going to join us :lmao: I had asked him before I booked for me and DS9, but he was worried about going 9 hours without his nicotine intake, so me and DS9 just went ahead and booked a hotel (I was hoping if Dad would come we could get a villa....cos we've booked separate though, we'll have to settle for 2 hotel rooms).

I was kinda looking forward to spending 2 whole weeks with just me and DS, but im still happy Dad and brother are coming along. For one thing, we only had car hire booked for 1 week. Dad has agreed to cover the cost of the 2nd week for our Mustang convertibe :teeth: Also, I had given up any idea of enjoying the nightlife at Downtown Disney, since DS is just a little too young to boogie the night away ;) Im sure Dad wont mind watching the wee man for a night or two, to let me sample the delights of Pleasure Island  :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

The downside is that Dad is practically disabled (he cant walk 10 yards at a snails pace without getting out of breath), so im hoping that the parks have some kinda motorised wheelchairs for hire? It has to be motorised, he is adamant he wont suffer the 'indignity' of being pushed around a park.

Im really looking forward to seeing my DBro's face in the parks as well. He is 46, although as he is mentally handicapped he will no doubt appreciate the parks, characters and occasion as much as DS9, if not more! :goodvibes

I have to admit though, it's a shame Dad only decided now to book. We could have got a nice villa with private pool for the combined price of our holidays. Regardless, me and Jr are still delighted! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I am sure that you will have a wonderful time - especially with your brother being there. Tell your Dad that there are loads of smoking areas in the parks!! Where are you staying?

just make sure you have enough luggage space for the 4 of you in the convertible, the luggage space in american cars isn't that great.

you can hire wheelchairs at all of the theme parks for your dad :thumbsup2

are you all managing to fly together ?

Girlsontour: We're staying at the Comfort Inn in LBV. I booked it during Virgin's January sale cos of the price. The reviews are mixed, but thankfully Dad is of the same mind as me - as long as it's clean, then it's what you make of it. Dad and DBro will spend lots of time by the pool I think, and I have heard only good things about the hotel's pool, so im glad abou that! Also, the hotel is very close to some bars and restaurants, so im sure Dad will keep himself occupied while me and DS tackle the parks :)

@ Ali: Haha, the convertible did cause a bit of consternation :teeth: I remembered though that Virgin give free transfers, so I booked Dad and DBro down for that to get the luggage to the hotel - me and DS will take the car ;) :teeth:

The good thing is (and it was only on this condition that Dad booked) that we managed to get the exact same flights and hotel. Im hoping to get him seats close to us on the flights (I've already pre-booked me and Jr's seats for both outward and return flights) but we're not too worried about that :)

We're flying from Manchester Ali. I didnt realise when I booked that Virgin flew from Glasgow, so just automatically went for Manchester as it's nearer :headache: :headache:

Good thing is, Dad's brother has a house near the airport, so we are going to travel down there the night before :thumbsup2

Shows you how well I've been keeping up with the post :rotfl: :rotfl:

you'll have a fab time and bet you start planning for 2008 on the day of landing back ;)

Sounds like you'll have a fantastic holiday

Look on the DISabilities forum for ideas of wheelchairs/motorised scooters. I'm sure it will be cheaper to hire 1 for 2 weeks from a privqte firm than every day from the parks plus your dad will have it with him at the hotel. I think from reading previous posts they will deliver to your hotel too.

I had a look around the net last night and found a site that definitely will hire and deliver it to the hotel for us, so he will be pleased about that! :thumbsup2

On a side note, has anyone any ideas what kind of things a pensioner might enjoy? So far, i've thought about the pool and grounds of the hotel, which I think he will want to spend alot of time relaxing in. There is also the Orlando Ale House on the 535 near the junction of Palm Parkway, which I have a feeling could become his 'local' during our stay ;) Also, I think he will like the Pirate's Cove mini-golf at the Crossroads Mall, and Downtown Disney with its many bars and restaurants (especially Raglan Road - he likes his Irish bars :) ).

Any more suggestions anyone?

we are hiring mobilty equipment from discountmobilityusa pm me if you want his email address. great service and yes they deliver to the hotel.

my parents at 73 and 76 and to be honest like all the things we do but have to say my Dad just loves Seaworld. think the pace there is a wee bit slower as there is less rides .

DTD is lovely at night
