Other finalists included the Old English Sheepdog (Herding Group, and "Reserve Best in Show), the German Wirehaired Pointer (Sporting Group), an American Foxhound (Hound Group), a Portuguese Water Dog (Working Group), a Bichon Frise (Non-Sporting Group) and a Smooth Fox Terrier (Terrier Group).

All beautiful dogs. :goodvibes

I was rooting for the sheepdog and the bichon frise. My ds liked the german wirehaired pointer.

The winner surprised me, but I really enjoyed watching the show.

Cute but I am so tired of small dogs winning. The Golden in the sporting groupnwas gorgeous and the anti lab bias is ridiculous. We did enjoy watching though!

He is a beautiful dog. We see him from time to time at the Dog Shows around here.

I watched the night he won in the TOY group and he is an adorable little doggie...
I was disappointed that the dalmatian didnt even place in the non-sporting group...(I know I am a lover of dals)...

But the dogs were all beautiful

I really loved the sheepdog..

DH and I were watching and I had told him that was the winner and he didn't believe me! He was such a cutie and I am glad he won!

My favorite breeds almost never win. Heck I have never seen my favorite breed even make the cut in the group judging. But I do love Shetland Sheepdogs. One day I will own one.

Am also partial to English Springer Spaniels. So glad a Springer won a few years ago.

And how cute are those little Norfolk and Norwich Terriers? I want one.

What criteria do they use? Best of breed makes sense. The others seem to be a judges favorite.

I was hoping for the smooth fox terrior. My husband and I kept commenting on the Affenpinscher lookling like a bat.

Is that an ewok?
Ha! I guess they call the Affenpincscher the "monkey dog"! Seems fitting. They'll probably be gaining in popularity now.

kacaju, you didn't go this year?

I just loved seeing the Pekingese (sorry if my spelling is off, don't feel like looking it up) walk. And that Bearded Collie was absolutely gorgeous. (I thought he'd win the Herding group.) So many that were funny or striking in some way, like the Smooth Fox Terrier that won with the "Phantom of the Opera" face, as we were calling it. My DS is a huge dog lover and listening to him ooh and aah over every dog was a riot.

They go by which dog fits the breed standard the best. (So difficult!) Of course, there's got to be some element of subjectivity involved. Each judge will probably see it a little bit differently. http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/dogshows/aboutdogshows.html

Would love to see either a Flat-Coated or Golden Retriever win Best in Show....
just once :)

Our family is also really tired of the Toy and Terrier Bias. My boys get really upset because the Best Breed never makes it in the finals let alone ever won ~ Bernese Mountain Dog :dogdance: We watched and my youngest son had his arm around our Berner and was whispering to him "of course a Bernese didn"t win your the Best Dog in the whole world :goodvibes It was so sweet it could have been a commercial.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are so cute.

It seems like the same groups always win. Its time for a big ol' dog to get a little love at Westminster. It seems its always the ones with the frou frou grooming that win.

Congrats! :goodvibes

Cole was my favorite:

But then I am quite biased.

The day a Kom goes BIS at the Garden or even the group is the day our feet turn to ice as hell will have frozen over.
