And the #1 Beatles' song is....

I'm actually kind of shocked that there are at least two people who've never even heard A Day in the Life? Really. It was played and played and played on the radio for years--even well past it's release.

I'm in agreement with CaliforniaDreamin's list!

Is this the song? Is this the original version? No, I've never heard this before and I can say that it's quite horrible. What the heck is going on at starting at 1:50? This can't possibly be the original version. :confused3

I'd go with:

1. Let It Be
2. Hey Jude
3. Eleanor Rigby
4. Blackbird
5. The Long and Winding Road
6. Yesterday
7. Something
8. Twist and Shout
9. Here Comes the Sun
10. In My Life

I didn't realize most of the listed songs were by the Beatles! Learn something new everyday...

Thank you! :goodvibes

I saw Paul at CitiField last year - he did a great job with A Day in the Life, which I couldn't picture being done live before.

Two years ago I got to take a Beatles tour in Liverpool, and we toured the Casbah Club, which was in the basement of Pete Best's house. It's in incredible shape - you can still see where Paul painted the ceiling, and the designs John painted on another ceiling, and there's even one spot where John carved his name on the wall and got in big trouble with Pete's mom for doing it, and it's still there.

It was so unreal to imagine they were just teenagers playing gigs in this tiny little basement once (pre-Ringo back then, of course). But there it was.

:worship::worship::worship::worship:

In some ways I am suprised Revolution did not make the list.
I agree that there are very few acts, IMO really only 1(Dylan) who has made anywhere close to tthe amount of important industry changing brilliant songs as they did.

I love Blackbird. And In My Life. I have to say not a real beatle fan- until my brother had a guitarist at his wedding play the songs.

I saw him at Sun Life Stadium earlier this year. He was just amazing. I hope I get to see him again.

I got shivers just reading this....I'm so jealous! Did you see John and Paul's houses?

Regarding the comments from people who don't care for their later period because the songs became too "weird", I don't know. I don't think I could ever choose.

Their early phase was fresh, wonderful, exciting, joyful....and they ALL looked so GOOD. Their music was like nothing before.

But the later phase...they grew, evolved, experimented. Some songs were strange, but that doesn't mean bad. They tended to be more complex, deeper; also there were plenty of songs that had nothing "weird" about them. and they still did plenty of upbeat music. Songs from this period include:

"Eleanor Rigby","Here, There and Everywhere" "Good Day Sunshine" "And Your Bird Can Sing" "Good Day Sunshine" "For No One" "Got to Get You into My Life" "Back in the U.S.S.R." "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" "Blackbird" "I Will" "Birthday" "When I'm Sixty-Four" "Penny Laine" "Hey Jude" "Let it Be" "The Long an Winding Road" "Something" "Oh! Darling" "Here Comes the Sun" . Not a "weird" one in the bunch.

This sample alone would make an outstanding career for anyone. But put them together with the ones from their early years, their "weird' ones and then add their masterful swan song:

Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End

The emotion and pain in Paul's powerful voice. Each one saying good-bye in their solos, the music...perfection

All out together is what makes The Beatles.....well, The Beatles.

Paul is amazing in concert! This summer I was at Ringo's 70th birthday concert at Radio City Music Hall, and Paul came on stage as a surprise at the end of the show:

My mom, who saw them in concert in 1964, nearly had a heart attack when this happened.1 :scared1:

Yep! They're owned by the British National Trust, so you can take tours of the houses. We were in the living room of Paul's house, and there was a picture of John and Paul on the wall of them in that same room with their guitars and the notes of the song they were working on were on the floor in front them. It was "I Saw Her Standing There."

We also saw Eleanor Rigby's grave, the gates to Strawberry Fields, the Cavern Club, and Penny Lane. When we got back to London we went to Abbey Road too. It was so cool.

But the Casbah was my favorite part of the tour. It was like a time capsule, most of it hasn't been changed since they used to play there.

The older I have gotten the more I appreciate the Beatles. I know I sound like an old grump or like my parents but the stuff, for the most part, that passes for music today just simply sucks.

Beatles stuff seems timeless and that is backed up by the fact the my children and their children all love the Beatles some 40 years after they recorded their last song. My favorites...not necessarily in order are...

Here, There and Everywhere
For No One
Blackbird*
Here Comes the Sun
I'll follow the sun
If I fell in Love with you
Something
Because*
Mother Natures Son
In my life

*I am guilty of playing these over and over by repeating the track on my car CD player. Most of the ones that I have listed are songs that you can sing along with, harmonize too and just generally enjoy. Try that with, let's say Smashing Pumpkins in their soothing rendition of "Caught in a Maze".

Well, I'll be the first to admit it.

I do not like the Beatles. At all. Maybe I liked the early, early stuff a bit, but after that....bleh.

Now Elvis, oh baby, he is still one of the most beautiful men that ever lived!!!:rotfl:
His early stuff, his cheesy movies, and then the comeback special!:worship:

I could listen to Suspicious Minds and it's Now or Never over and over again!
And then Little Sister, Return to Sender, Are You Lonesome Tonight...and everything else???

Sigh, now I must go listen.

(I'm 36, by the way!:rotfl: and don't get me started on Dean Martin and Neil Diamond!)

edited to add: I forgot Sam Cooke!!!!!!! sigh........I'm fainting.........

I don't care for the Beatles either.

That being said, I had heard of most of those songs...... but I have not heard the #1 song...

This is so high on my list of places to visit. DD(18) is a huge fan. Hoping we can take a trip this summer to visit these Beatle landmarks. Have seen Paul three times - Milwaukee, Tampa, and Atlanta. Loved every minute of every concert...and he's worth every penny and more.

Anyone know when he's scheduled to tour next?

I was in London in 1967. I asked a Bartender where I could find some Strawberry Fields. He looked at me, stone sober and said..."I do believe you might be able to find them in Liverpool". Then went about his duties.

It always struck me as funny...of course you do have to attach a british accent to that statement to get the full force of it.

LOVE the Beatles!

Last year I flew to Las Vegas just to see "Love" and it was worth every penny.

That being said, I'm a huge fan of George's songwriting.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is way up top to me. As is "Something"

Also,
"Norwegian Wood"
"Strawberry Fields Forever"
"Day Tripper"
"Blackbird"
"All You Need is Love"
"A Day in the Life"
"In My Life"
"I'll Follow the Sun"

I also love the rocked out "Back in the USSR"
