For years, my family has politely mocked me for having an empty CoolWhip container & lid in a sack under my car seat. I told them, "One day you'll thank me". Today is that day!

DS was home from school yesterday, sick with a sore throat, stuffy nose, temp, etc.... He was better today and he went to school. Within 10 minutes of getting to school, he lost his Fruity Pebbles & Advil.

I picked him up and he was still a little squeamish. Yep, sure enough, on the way home he made a dive for the CoolWhip container and had perfect aim. Not a drop on the carpet, on the seat, on him, or on me. A snap of the tight-fitting lid and the clean-up was done.

So now the van is not gross, we will be able to travel without waves of nausea from residual odors, and I don't have tons of laundry to do. All I have to do it get a new container & sack for the van.

I keep airsick bags from the airplaines in my glove compartment. LOL

good for you I carry a plastic bag for that same reason but a sealable container would be much better probably :)

I don't have one, but I will now.

Great tip, Claudia. I may go with a baggie though since they take up less room.

Hope your DS is feeling better soon.

I carry those grocery shopping bags because I've BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!!

LOL, know exactly what you mean. I always have plastic bags in the minivan, just in case ;)

For years we have carried either a cool whip container or a dishpan and a roll of paper towels in our van. DD Sarah has a tendancy to get car sick now and then, so DW Sue likes to be prepared. Funny thing is that Sarah does not seem to get sick when I drive. I think that I hold the car a bit steadier than DW does when driving down the road.

We were NOT prepared during our vacation to Europe in 1997. We had a HUGE 9-passenger diesel minivan for our ride from Antwerp to Paris. We were visiting friends and, as a courtesy to them, I let Ray drive the van. About an hour out of Antwerp, Sarah lost her battle with motion sickness. The van was a mess. We stopped at a filling station to cleanup as best we could. My wife later told me that she was tempted to take the garbage can from the restroom in case we had any more problems. But she knew that would be stealing, so she resisted the temptation. We made it the rest of the way to Paris without any more incidents (and with ALL the windows wide open).

Glad you were prepared and had the opportunity for an "I told you so" moment. Hope DS is feeling better.

I am so with you on this one. I keep a box of Ziploc bags in my van at all times - zip 'em up and no mess, no nothin'. Wouldn't be without them! Another great use for a ziploc and trust me, with a child who can't go from here to there without being sick they're well worth it!

Very smart idea! I don't have kids, but I might have to put something in my car "just in case" I hope your DS feels better soon!

We also have ziplock bags and airsick bags in our vehicles at all times! I even resorted to one when I had morning(all day:rolleyes: !) sickness with DS many years ago:o :p !
Hope your DS gets to feeling better and keeps his germies to himself;) !

An extra thing to pack for the trip.

Already been there, and done that with my DS in the rental car - on the way back to the airport. My God, what a mess!!

Everytime I try to have an empty lidded container of any kind in the car, specifically for

my DH cleans out the car, and throws it away!

That is a great idea! I'll have to keep that in mind when my little one is old enough to aim.

As my hubby would say (and not to be gross)

be sure to throw the darn thing out!!!!!!!!!!!!11
