Well, as per a previous thread, last November I decided that I would upgrade DD(8) to adult plan purely because we got the QSDP and it makes her Gluten Free meals easier as she can eat quite a lot of the adult options. I did this to save the wait times at CS for special meals, which, although Disney is very accommodating in this regard, sort of defeats the whole idea of a quick meal.

Long story short, I pay for DD as an adult anyhow (single parent) but she gets a reduced rate for the flight surcharges and gets child park ticket. After many many phone calls (and total consusion at Openride office ) a supervisor advised I could do this if I paid not only adult ticket price for DD but also full price for the surcharges and everything else. I decided that it was not too much more than what I would pay OOP to substitute things for her but with added convenience. Yes please, book it and I will pay.

Early this year, checked my Disney US online ressie and they had her as a child Phoned them in the US. Nope, she will get a child DDP no matter what I paid. Go back to Disney UK. I did. Total confusion. 6 weeks of regular phone calls. Supervisor meetings .... and who knows what else. THey were going to email Disney and copy me into it confirming the situation. This appears not to have happened.

So yesterday I said to the lovely lady who has been helping me that this is too time consuming for me and for them, if it can't be resolved by today, I would be happy if they could revert my booking to its original status and refund the applicable extra charges to my account.

Well, this is what they have done. The only thing is that the person dealing with this said, don't worry, we reverted it back by rebooking it for you. Now I keep frantically checking my Virgin flights to make sure I haven't lost my "old" baggage allowance and the seats I selected for us in November. I hope it was just the way she worded it. Bless her, she desperately wanted to help all the way through and I couldn't have asked for a nicer person to deal with. :) She also applied a small goodwill gesture to my balance by way of an apology for approving something they couldn't apply to my booking. I just thought that was really sweet.

Only downside is that now I have to amend my spreadsheets and formulae to add in child credits and re-select our CS locations taking the child's menu into account, which I was happily able to disregard :rolleyes1

This is probably a pointless thread except that the only downside about a surprise trip is that I can't tell anyone. But then there are all you lovely people :yay:

Oh its not a pointless thread, you must of been soooooo frustrated:headache:

I have a DD with a dairy and gluten allery so I know how hard it can be in finding things that they can eat of menus.:sad2:

Glad you have "hopefully" manged to get it sorted out now, and you can concentrate on the the fun stuff :banana:

xxx

not a pointless thead at all...
if you can't share threads like this with us, who can you share them with????

I've come to learn that there is no such thing as a pointless thread!!!!

How are Disney at accomodating children's diets such as dairy free or is it a real pain? I'm sure for the TS ressies, you get a chance on the online booking to add allergies etc. in?

Hi

Dinsey and DCL have always been fantastic at accomodating my DD and have always made a real fuss over her.:worship:

She loves the fact that the chef personally brings her her food and sits there like a proper "Princess":lovestruc

Shame she dosnt get the same treatment as home!!!!!!

WDW and DCL are absolutely outstanding at special diets...
once you've done them, you're totally spoiled....
nothing else even comes close..

on the other hand, tokyo disney resort is the worst....
we meant to write a letter to disney about how very bad things are at tokyo disney in terms of dietary requirements, but we decided not to bother...

No wonder you feel frustrated - it's such a shame when you thought everything was sorted. :headache:

I do agree that Disney is beyond outstanding with accommodating special diets. I will contact them shortly and advise them regarding the TS. I only did the upgrade (or tried in vain :rotfl2:) because seeing as we are on the QSDP it does mean potentally lengthy waits while they obligingly sort her alternative meals at the CS. I just thought it would be nice to be able to order what we want when we want and not have to worry about causing chaos by making special requests should we wish to eat at normal (read busy) times.

I also don't know if they will use a child CS to do a special meal or if they are gong to deduct my adult credits for it (???):confused3 Last year I got around it by using child meals for snacks and occasionally swapping my "safe" adult meal with her and eating what she couldnt finish. Often I would just pay OOP/use snack for a supplement and add it to an adult meal and we would share it.

Thanks for all your support. I nearly logged on to delete this this morning thinkng I was silly. Thank goodness for my DIS family :lovestruc

arr bless, i havent done qsdp, but have food allergies myself and know all about chosing so that i can eat;)
at pizza planet they do gluten free pizzas and at caseys they have gluten free buns. Pinocchios also have gluten free options.
pop onto the disabilities thread and they ll give you the low down, there are major options, i dont think you need to worry, TBH they ll prob give you and adults portion anyway for convenience, we have upgraded dd7 to an adult on the DDp for convenience, she eats "real" food, not nuggets etc, so i would have spent 2 weeks eating them or paying out OOP, so decided to do that about 24 hours afeter our first booking:rotfl2:
there will be food for your daughter, but like me, it just takes a little hunting/research.
good luck
Tracy

Oh no, you thought it was all sorted then it's back to the drawing board :sad2: I think it's great that you have taken it so well

Good luck with sorting out your revised CS selections :thumbsup2 it will all be so worth it when you and DD are there. :wizard:

Well, I don't know about taking it so well :lmao: I was really disappointed. Just checked this evening and it has been going on constantly since 1 November! It's more a case of making a decision that I am not allowing this to ruin my special surprise trip with DD. It's all very well to get upset when you may get results, but it is how it is so I know for next time. What also helped is that the staff I dealt with were exceptionally wonderful and it is a case of recognising that the flaw is in the system, not the staff.

I am also looking at the positives - I am £80 better off because they "couldn't do what they told me they could". And they refunded the excess I had paid for the upgrade. I can use that to pay for supplements where desired if it comes to that. And to be fair, I didn't want adult portions - just the choices so the best I could do on a rough plan was 14 CS left over :scared1: (Also because I am doing 5 TS, so more "spare" CS). At least now I can use most of the credits. It's nearly ADR time and I plan on going into my 180 day zone HAPPY! :) :lmao:

If you says to the CMs at the CS about the option on the adult menu your DD can eat they may well let you have a small portion of that anyway.

Got to be worth asking - they may be happy as they don't have to prepare her a special meal.

That's actually a good idea :thumbsup2 I know that they won't ordinarily make a child portion of an adult meal (probably down to the choices or lack thereof on the kids menus in general), but if I tell them I am happy to be flexible on it and will take GF specially made or a small portion of a safe adult meal, whichever is easiest for them, then they may be happy to do so. I have made a note of that so I remember when we get there. Thanks for the idea. :goodvibes
