And now they LIED about the Mickey Statues?

I would never cancel a trip over a few Mickey statues, sure they are kinda of nice, but nobody really spends a lot of time looking at them in the first place. I really do not think that it is the end of the World if they are not there.

Full acknowledgement to AV and his Baron inspired chip, chip, chipping at Another Brick in the Wall as this could be viewed as such, and I'm sorry for those who were REALLY looking forward to these statues and planned a trip for the express purpose of viewing them...........but I wouldn't let this ruin my trip.

The statues were neat to walk by, but for all but the biggest Disneyanna-obsessed individuals they aren't much to get excited over.

So yes, Disney changed the dates (damed those 'dates subject to change' disclaimers). Some may view the 'taking away' of a months worth of viewing of a temporary item to be further evidence that the World has gone down the crapper. However, from a practical standpoint it just doesn't seem like that big a deal to me....................although I acknowledge that it may be a big deal to others for whatever reasons.

I guess the reason for this post is to point out that, unlike AV, I would not equate this particular item to the likes of reduced Adventureland hours, reduced park hours, the closing of pavillions, or neglected maintenance.

So removing the statues early are indicitive of the chip, chip, chipping away of what Disney does for us (has given us)? Funny that I never saw the post where AV & Matt gave the BIG kudos to Disney for coming up with this idea...

Can someone point me to the proper link to read this?

I just saw them and found them to be a blatent advertisement for feeding"something" in the Disney machine. For example, Raven has one ... Kim Possible...etc...

I would think bringing them to the board meeting would show shareholders how little imagination is left in Disney. How little respect is shown for the Icon of Disney. They let anyone throw some paint on him...for the chance of getting a few bucks of advertising.

OK, this is just ridiculous. This may be the first time this program has been done with Mickey...but overall this "type" of creative charitable auction is certainly not new. It was done with sea creatures (whales or dolphins, I don't remember which) in FL, and is done in Texas with cows. The unique thing about this program versus others, it that the artist chooses the charity for his statue. They did not "throw some paint" on Mickey any more than any other artist that chooses Disney icons as subject matter. Or are you also saying that collectable Disney art (like what is shown in the Disney Galleries), is showing disrespect?

Creating a new set of Mickey's would not be the same as seeing the originals I think. I did get a chance to see them when I went up there last week and I thought they were pretty cool. Again, as an artist, it was fascinating to see how each celebrity donned their Mickey Mouse. I tried to get pictures of all of them, but I must have missed some as looking through the picture archives here (which are wonderful I must say), I realized that I missed some. It was very hard to see given the rope layout, who did what statue and until seeing the pics from here, I didn't know who did what.

I just ran into another site on pbase, where someone had taken similar photographs of a project like Mickey's with Lucy from Peanuts. Was also very cool.

I don't blame the OP for wanting to see them, and making a trip while they are there. Of course Disney has all sorts of wonders to see, but it was one of the new, and magical things to see and if you are going to plan a trip, might as well do it when you can, before they are auctioned off to sit in some rich person's den. I think it's wrong of them to announce a date and then change it to earlier.

Actually, the one from Rosie O'Donnell looks like she did just throw paint on Mickey, but the other ones were well thought out I think.

"Funny that I never saw the post where AV & Matt gave the BIG kudos to Disney for coming up with this idea..."

Becasue of the fact that I don't like the idea of the statues (down way to many times in way to many cities) - that doesn't mean I don't care if others want to see them or not.

I thought the entire idea of WDW was variety and choice and a lot of things to do.

I dislike the fact that the choices, variety and options of others have been reduced without notice, without warning, and (once again) without care. It doesn't matter if the were something I choose or not - others wanted to make that decision for themselves.

But I did expect that response. Look at the other chips - all of them have been justified here by people using very self-centered means. The "let them close 'Wonders of Life, I'm bored" and "I don't care what you think, I'm not letting it ruin my trip!" don't show a lot respect for other people's interests or other people concern's.

And that's Disney's biggest problem. They just don't care about the customers anymore. We are supposed to adapt to their needs, to their whims, to their financial demands. We are supposed to magically hand over our money and not let anything ruin our magical vacation.

Guess what - it doesn't work like that. There are far more customers that are wanting to be pleased than "nothing's going to ruin my vacation" types.

Chuck that is what the Rosie ODonnald Mickey looks like...thrown paint! I believe the term is "synergy" that I was looking for in discribing my thoughts.

Okay, I didn't PLAN a trip around the statues, but they were a motivating factor my short trip in April! I'm taking a 7 night cruise, but decided to stay at WDW for a couple of nights... motivated by the fact that the statues would be there through April!

No, I'm not going to cancel my stay, but I do feel it's just one more straw on the camels back!

I arrived at MK today around 2:00 in order to view them a final time.
I thought maybe there would even be a sign stating today was the last day. But I did not see one.
I left around 6. And I didn't even remember to look to see if they were still there.
It has been raining all afternoon. Hard to say they would start removing them now. ??
I thought I would go to Epcot tomorrow. Maybe I will pop over to MK and see if they are removed.

they're trying to save the statues so an actual auction for charity can take place. We saw them on our last visit and thought they were pretty impressive (ya, even Rosie's) and that it was a neat, although not totally original, idea. But the abuse the statues were taking from the idiots that were allowing their kids to go under the ropes and climb all over them was unbelieveable! Even when the CM's would tell them to get out the parents wouldn't listen.

To the OP...I am sorry you won't get a chance to see them but please don't let it ruin your trip! I hope you'll get another chance!

Everytime I went in I saw kids and adults alike on the statues, touching them, etc.
One parent today as I was looking at a statue as his kid was running from one to another behind the rope --
Oh. Is he not suppose to be behind the rope?

Oh that's fine. The rope is part of the decoration theme. Really. :jester:

I Am Outraged!!!
I can't believe this!! We planned this trip arriving April 1st just so we could see the 75 Mickey's. I can't believe the amount of notice that was given either. No chance of changing plans at this late date. What is going on with Disney lately? It's one thing after another! We are soooo disappointed with this news. We can only hope that the tour will change and we will be one of the cities it visits, but of course I doubt that. I feel like cancelling our trip but what would I tell the kids. Disney, how could you let us down like this???

You live in Tampa Bay ? You're two freakin' hours away. I'm sorry.... nevermind. I just found your post funny.

In response to KNWViking and OnWithTheShow...We have 3 small children, one is special needs. Although it may seem to you that we can pick up at the spur of the moment, there are many obstacles in our lives that prevent us from doing that. With a special needs child it does require planning and schedule juggling for all three children. I'm sorry you found my post amusing, it was not meant to be funny. I don't think it matters where a person lives, if they plan a vacation just like everyone else, it is disappointing when things don't go according to plan.
